Selectism - Beddo Bed System

01. Novy Dvur Monastery by John Pawson

“A reductive design process that questions the necessity of every element in the desire to eliminate what is superfluous. This discretion in design is vital for a group of robed Cistercian monks, originally from France, who deliberately seeks seclusion. The restored Our Lady of Novy Dvur monastery, in the Czech Republic is their entire world—based on bare necessities and self denial.” (minimalissimo)

02. Beddo (above)

“Beddo – Japanese for ‘bed’ – designed by Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm, is a minimalist sofa, comprising of a low-level, thin upholstered plane with a wooden structure for a removable backrest.” (iainclaridge)

03. From Mickey to Murakami: Kaikai and Kiki to Join Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

“Kaikai, a childlike character in a rabbit costume, and Kiki, a companion with three eyes and sharp fangs, are examples of Mr. Murakami’s signature superflat style, but their balloon likenesses will be about 40 feet long when completed, and about three stories tall when filled with helium. Since the spring, Macy’s parade studio and Mr. Murakami and his Tokyo-based team have traded notes on two-dimensional sketches that were used to create clay models, which were then further refined and colored before the fabrication of the balloons (now underway).” (nytartbeat)

04. ID Blocker Stamp

“It gets harder every day to protect our identity on line, at the ATM or simply when discarding documents in the trash. This nifty low tech device will help protect your identity, even if you don’t own a shredder. The stamp contains thousands of tiny symbols that block out whatever is under them when you use it. It works great for credit card statements, personal addresses, or anything else you want to keep private, but need to throw out. The ink can be replaced as with any self inker. Should get 2,000 stampings with ink filled.” (notcot>spoonsisters)

“A psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, BLACK SWAN stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured dancer who finds herself locked in a web of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the company (Mila Kunis). A Fox Searchlight Pictures release by visionary director Darren Aronofsky (THE WRESTLER), BLACK SWAN takes a thrilling and at times terrifying journey through the psyche of a young ballerina whose starring role as the duplicitous swan queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect.”

Paul Smith Jeans Northern Light T-Shirt

Selectism - Paul Smith Jeans Northern Light T-Shirt

Paul Smith takes some risks by shifting through old closets filled with these classic haze shirts from decades past. For some reason, this is done well, though, not for everyone. I love the owl hidden in the sky. I can hear Eugene singing Journey right now. Goodhood has them.

Selectism - 830 Sign Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

While they’re name is slightly cryptic (attributed to the designer’s fathers birthdate: 8/30), the 830 Sign collection is another casual and safe set of garments for the gents. “The inspiration for the collection came from a thoughtful walk in through the city of Verona, Italy. Inspiration, it is in the very fog that covers the city and countryside that embrace you when you wake up in the morning. It is in the moon over Verona, that is the guiding light for Romeo and Juliet’s epic love. It is in the winter blue nights, the white snow, the river mud and a brisk walk in the Roman sites, where history comes alive in the old buildings that line the streets. ”

communedeparis fall2010 selectism 2 Commune de Paris Autumn/Winter 2010

A larger selection of looks at the Autumn 2010 collection from Commune de Paris. Here’s how they describe their wears: “Commune de Paris 1871 has launched yet another attack. Uproar and smoke. The insurgents advance on two fronts : A collection of menswear, lively classic. Scattered red and blue republican symbols appear on noble fabric of sober colours. A cabinet of curios, packed with objects created by artists federated around the label, who reinvent the cockade, convert flags, coins and historical engravings, take over cannons, bar- ricades, and furious roosters.” Heavy.

Selectism - The Hill-Side Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook

Photo booth imagery makes up The Hill-Side’s Autumn 2010 lookbook. We can properly assume that the cast of characters helping to showcase the forthcoming collection from the brand were all friends. We see a few familiar faces in there. Nevertheless, they do a wonderful job of placing neckwear against a variety of people and looks. A fun shoot.

selectism - SeaVees Autumn 2010 Collection

We’ve featured future SeaVees models and their terrific collaborations with James Pearse throughout the Summer, and with the seasons changing we’re excited about the launch of their Autumn 2010 collection.

The plimsol remains in a variety of Pantone approved colors. The silhouette has also received a nice flannel treatment and been dressed in stonewashed leather. Aside from those, the Buck and 3 Eye Chucka are pretty good.

Check the full collection at SeaVees. Our favorites after the jump.

Selectism - RIMOWA Wallets

Here’s another set of interesting pieces from the RIMOWA family. Many, including myself, may not be aware that they also offer a series of wallets for the gents (and ladies). “RIMOWA wallets are crafted in Germany from top-of-the-line European leather and are available in 9 different styles, including bi-fold a credit card case, unisex wallets.” Similar styling found on their luggage makes it way onto these forms – in a straight forward way.

Selectism - Generic Surplus Autumn/Winter 2010

The Generic Surplus collection is ready to land on your feet for Autumn. “The… collection maintains the momentum that it has built up over the past 7 seasons and further refines and defines it’s ethos of simplicity and wearability. The color story and materials are inspired from vintage hunting and fishing catalogs from the 1950’s. Wool has been added in heather, olives and greys, to add to the richness of suedes, canvas, and textured leathers.”
