Selectism - Épice Scarves for Autumn/Winter 2010

Add some accent to your Autumn day with these scarves from Épice. “Specialists in the weave and print, Bess Nielsen and Jan Machenhauer have developed a collection around the themes of relaxation, amusement and the wonder suggested by flower designs. The basics were renewed with dots and silk square scarfs evoking ‘le chic parisien’ and stripes and checks representing the classics in the collection. Creating a bridge between Occident and Orient, the designers take inspiration in the Ottoman dynasty and of course India.” Porvocacao has them.

Griffin Autumn/Winter 2010 Jackets (Made in Italy, of Woolrich Materials)

29 September 2010, 15.03 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - Griffen Autumn/Winter 2010 Jackets

Griffin launch their Woolrich sourced, Italian made Jacket program next week. Quality is the emphasis, both in tradition and line. “With an appreciation for original military garments this season we turn our attention to the American military uniforms of the 50’s and 60’s, pulling snorkel jackets and smock jackets from the extensive Griffin archive and researching classic movies such as the 1968 film “Ice Station Zebra” staring Rock Hudson (nothing quite like an old military film). Last season we looked back to our heritage, this season we focus on the future. Whilst we still delve into the Griffin archive for our classic garments like the reversible smock and the fishtail snow parka we have been working alongside the latest advance machinery. This respect for American military clothing is reflected in our choice of fabrics, this autumn/winter 10 season we are working with renowned U.S. fabric mill Woolrich. An original company that is internationally respected for its heritage and quality wool fabrics and known for its identifiable plaids in black and white and the classic red and black. Other fabrics this season include traditional British Millerain dry wax cottons, rich winter corduroys and original camouflages from Belgium, France, Germany and Finland. Still holding tight to the Griffin mix of tradition vs. technology, function vs. fashion, high tech 3 layer fabrics meet original European camouflages all accentuated with luxury fur trims.”

Griffin are really proud to manufacture garments in Italy (as you might gather). As proof, after the jump, we’re showing a selection of the Autumn/Winter 2010 jackets accompanied by a short documentary about Italian production.

Does anything happen in Derry, New Hampshire?

Only the production of New England’s finest craft root beer. The Nutfield Brewing Company specializes in nothing else. Fans attest to Nutfield’s class, describing the finish and smooth in texture with a rich, balanced sweetness. Nutfield is most easily acquired in keg form (assuming you live in Southern New England).

Casely Hayford Donkey Jacket

Selectism - casely-hayford-donkey-jacket-01

So here’s a piece that pictures don’t do justice. We’ve had our eye on this Donkey Jacket for a while and we’ll continue our lust fest now it’s out in stores. It’s a two piece jacket, so the body doubles as a gillet when you get the urge to layer up. At £1190, it’s a long, long way from cheap, but it does actually merit the price tag. We guess we’ll be playing the ‘hope it’s still around when the sales start’ game with this one. (Farfetch)

Selectism - Aldo Lanzini at Missoni's Spring/Summer 2011 Show

01. Libratone Speaker

“Ah those crazy Danish. They’ve come up with another great piece of design. The Libratone Speaker is completely wireless, but unlike other wireless speakers, sound quality is not sacrificed. It’s unique design projects sound not just forward and out but behind as well, reflecting off nearby walls and creating a more rich, robust quality to the music. Beyond that, because it’s wireless you can place it and carry it to where it’s needed–out to the patio, into the bedroom, etc. The handsome speaker doesn’t even look like a speaker, as it’s upholstered in a understated felt cloth. Check em out, unless you like the twang of that portable iPod dock. $595″ (coolmaterial)

02. Balancing Barn by MVRDV and Mole Architects

“This cantilevered house in Suffolk, England, by MVDRV of Rotterdam and British firm Mole Architects will be the first of five homes from Alain de Botton’s Living Architecture project available for rent on 22 October.” (dezeen)

03. Braille Stapler

“One can only imagine the level of satisfaction realized by a team of Korean designers who affected the Braille Stapler. Making the best of their inventive skills, the quartet comprising designer Dong Won Jang, Lee Hansub, Park Mihyang and Bae Jungmin have crafted a unique device that promises to alleviate the hurdles faced by the deaf-blind in communicating with the rest of the world.” (tdb)

04. Aldo Lanzini at Missoni’s Spring/Summer 2011 Show (above)

“Aldo Lanzini’s beautifully alarming crochet masks most recently made an appearance at Missoni’s Spring/Summer 2011 fashion show when the 30 ushers wore them to seat people. While the riotous colors and fantastical faces make compliment the Italian label’s renowned knitwear well, their bold expressions and strange forms of the maskes are a spectacle of their own.” (coolhunting)
