Albam Shetland Knit

Selectism - albam-shetland-knit-01

There’s been a war of the crewnecks going on outside (that no one is safe from). It’s  a war that’s predicted to go on for a little while longer, but we’d like to pick this Albam Shetland knit as an early frontrunner. It’s not quite top 5 dead or alive, but it’s definitely up there. And not just because of the snigger-worthy colour name either (this colour is called ‘cumin’. Seriously). There’s also leather elbow patches, which are one of those great practical touches we’re glad to see in knitwear. (Albam)

Dries Van Noten ‘Moche’ Sweater

Selectism - dries-van-noten-moche-sweater-01

Tres Bien continues to, as the kids say, kill it with their model choices. We’d have never thought that looking like a dapper Mark Morrison would be a good look, but we’ve been proven wrong. Of course, that Dries Van Noten sweater doesn’t hurt either. By now we shouldn’t have to explain our love for shawl collars, and the beige colour (or nude, if you’re feeling particularly fashion) means it’ll work well as a contrast on denim or in a tone-on-tone outfit with a pair of chinos. Barker ‘Aden’ Derby

Selectism - barker-aden-derby-01

It’s been a while since we’ve featured some of that made in England goodness, so here’s a refresher. As much as we love Church’s and Tricker’s, we’d be the first to admit that not everyone can afford to spend that much on shoes. Which is where a brand like Barker comes in. Their shoes are all made in Northampton and, as you can see, they have plenty of handsome shoes available. This derby has a longer toe, giving it a more elegant look than the usual rounded toe. Needless to say, this’ll look pretty – excuse our french – darn good with a well worn pair of jeans. (Edwards)

02. Axl Rose: Guns N’ Roses ‘had a deal’ to play past curfew at Reading And Leeds Festivals

“Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose  has claimed that the band had a “deal in place” to play longer than their allotted time slots during their headline shows at the Reading And Leeds Festivals over the weekend.” (NME)

03. R.I.P., Corinne Day

“The English fashion photographer Corinne Day passed away this weekend, following a long fight with brain cancer. Day’s stripped-down, de-glossed aesthetic was a breath of fresh air when she rose to prominence in the early nineties, coming on the heels of the ultra-stylized shoots of the 1980’s. Today, she’s most famous for one such pared-down editorial that ran in Britain’s The Face in July of 1990—one that launched the career of her friend, a then-unknown 16-year-old named Kate Moss.” (Style.com)

04. Fresh Peanuts For Sale

“El Manicero (The Peanut Vendor)” is easily one of the best known Cuban compositions in the world, covered many many many times over yet it is a tune I never, ever seem to tire of. I’ve been lax in actually showing proper love even though my intentions have been there for a while: both Cachao and Sedes’ versions had been in the back of my head for future posts but it was hearing Peru’s Raul Llerena’s version tonight that finally forced me to bajar mi cull.” (Soul Sides)
