Patagonia Nano Puff Scarf

Selectism - Patagonia Nano Puff Scarf

Our friends at Notcouture pointed us at this “nano puff” scarf from the Patagonia world. Im not sure we’ve ever featured their goods before but this outwear brand should certainly see a click jump based on our “camping and fishing” ideas. What I find interesting is the take on the puffy coat/jacket. This one of course wraps your neck rather than your full body with the same warmth and comfort. Not overly stylish but damn practical.

Jerry Thompson and Walker Evans: Pictures of People

selectism - Jerry Thompson and Walker Evans: Pictures of People

The Gallery of Hermes (691 Madison Ave, New York, NY) will present Jerry Thompson and Walker Evans: Pictures of People from October 1, 2010. The exhibition strives to connect the two photographers and explore Walker’s influence on Thompson. Thompson worked the streets of New York City in the 70s and 80s, capturing the folks that made the city tick (with an 8×10 camera). Walker Evans, of course, is famed for his FSA photographs of the 1930s.

The exhibition runs through November 27, 2010. Living proof that “street style” photography existed before the internet. (Though there are literally loads of examples of that truth).

A note on the images -

At left: Jerry Thompson, West Broadway near Broome Street, 1979. Gelatin Silver Print, 8 x 10 inches.

At right: Walker Evans, Untitled [Landlord, Hale County, Alabama], 1936. Archival Pigment Print, 25 7/8 x 20 5/8 inches.

J Lindeberg Rumble Patch Quilted Tweed Jacket

selectism - j-lindeberg-down-blazer

This is called a blazer on ASOS’s site, but we’re gonna call it a jacket – mainly because that’s what it looks like to our ever-so-discerning eye. We spotted this piece back when we were going through their AW10 collection and now it’s out in stores (or dropped, if you’re used to High Snob vernacular). What more can we say about this piece? it looks good and we like it. We never said we were deep. (ASOS)

Grevi Aran Bobble Hat

Selectism - grevis-box-bobble-hat-01

Forgive us for being a little weather obsessed lately, but we’ve been waiting for autumn for a few months. Bobble hats come back with a bang last autumn (well, as much of a bang as a hat can manage) and it looks like it’s only gonna get more popular this year. This loden green hat makes a nice change from the orange cable knit hat that every ‘cool’ guy was wearing last year. (Oi Polloi)

Porsche Design Advent Calendar

Selectism - Porsche Design Advent Calendar

This one confuses me a bit but damn it looks good.  Porsche Design works over the typical advent calendar with something heavily placed and six feet tall. “Instead of an array of tasty chocolates stashed in a cardboard calendar, the company has built an aluminum tower nearly six-feet tall. There are unique Porsche Design gifts designed to correspond with each day in the run up to Christmas, including niceties like a P’6910 mechanical stopwatch, a full P’7340 kitchen and, probably most impressively, an RFF28 “motor yacht” with a single 525-horsepower Mercury engine. Quite how they get the last two items to fit in the tower, we’re not entirely sure.” (autoblog)

Indigofera “Norris” Indigo Blue Shirt

Selectism - Indigofera "Norris" Indigo Blue Shirt

Nothing overdone with this shirt from Indigofera above the indigo blue dye used in fabrication. The shirt also looks the proper length for gentleman of my height. “Here they’ve made a indigo overdyed heavy flannel fabric. The shirt is a bit short and boxy, sleeves are narrow and two flap pockets on the chest. Rounded hem.” Tresbien has them.
