selectism - "Stationary Design Now!" Book

We’re old fashioned guys. So, despite an increasingly digital world we still believe in letterhead. And, we still believe in the power of handwritten notes.

Stationery Design Now! proves that graphic designers haven’t forgotten about those things either. The book, published by Taschen, reviews over 200 corporate stationery projects. An essay offering historic insight into the importance and the roll of stationery is provided by by Jay Rutherford, Professor for Visual Communication at Bauhaus University Weimar. Together with contemporary materials, the background context helps promote a contemporary climate of celebration in regard to paper goods.

Naked & Famous 26oz Selvedge Denim Jeans

Selectism - Naked & Famous 26oz Selvedge Denim Jeans

The top end of the heavyweight denim looks to be untouched as of yet. Naked & Famous deliver these “highly uncomfortable” 26oz selvedge jeans. Word has it, they’ll be even heavier soon enough. We’re told they have an irregular weave. “The texture is irregular due to what is called “loom chatter”. The shuttle is loaded up with such a heavy and rigid black weft yarn that it struggles to make each fill pass. It basically creates “a war within the loom”! The loom shakes and chatters and creates a fascinating and irregular weave.” Made in San Francisco.

Bills Khakis 20th Anniversary Cramerton Twills

selectism - Bills Khakis 20th Anniversary Cramerton Twills

Before the current rash of “Made in the USA” newbies, Bill Thomas resolved to celebrate American manufacture and build himself a pair of khakis that worked for him. From simple beginnings, Thomas has grown his empire and kept his headquarters firmly planted in Reading, PA. This year the company turned 20. The celebrate, Thomas turns to a true classic and commemorates the USO.

Here’s what they have to say at Bills – “Fall 2010 marks our 20th year in business, a business founded on the tangible qualities and symbolic values found in a single pair of original WWII khakis. To commemorate this milestone, we introduce our 20th Anniversary khaki. Cut from genuine American-made Cramerton Twill, this cloth was the “twill of record” issued by the U.S. military during WWII. In conjunction with the introduction of this product, Bills Khakis honors generations of men, women and their families who have so bravely served and sacrificed for our country by supporting the USO. We thank our customers for sharing in this commitment.”

The trouser will be available from select retailers.

Thanks to Acquire for the heads up.

Aquascutumn Cable Knit

selectism - aquascutum-shawl-cable-knit-01

For whatever reason, the cream Aran knit is taking over the trendy side of East London at the moment (meaning that any bloggers across the pond will be going crazy over it next year when J. Crew do a suitable copy). The problem with the versions the ‘cool’ kids are wearing is that they’re usually poorly sized and well, a bit rubbish. So upgrade yourself with this Aquascutum cable knit*, which has all the advantages of the vintage aran knit – i.e it looks good – and none of that funky smell. You’ll probably do well to size up though, judging from how tight this looks. (My Wardrobe)
