Flying Dog Brewery Dogtoberfest Marzen

selectism - Flying Dog Brewery Dogtoberfest Marzen

Autumn will soon give way to Winter seasonal beers, so before the leaves fall completely make sure to taste all you can. Our final nod to October brews comes from Maryland’s biggest brewery (not that big, in the grand scheme), Flying Dog. “The origins of Dogtoberfest are shrouded in mystery, but scholars think it has everything to do with an insane German king and a crazed Oompah band. You can read the full historical record of Dogtoberfest below. Dogtoberfest is deep mahogany in color with an intriguing caramel finish and brewed with 100% imported German ingredients for a true German flavor.”

While we’re at it, allow us to mention Flying Dog’s 20th anniversary Raging Bitch Beligian IPA. Strike your fancy? Full information follows after the jump.

Inis Meáin Aran Turtle Neck

Selectism - iris-meanin-aran-cable-knit-01

Everybody’s loving the roll neck right now and, whilst we will still recommend them, we do think you should approach with caution. Men always seem to struggle with new cuts, so going from a crewneck to a roll neck is the sartorial equivalent of 0-120 in 3 seconds. We’re not trying to put anyone off, but if you are gonna get this, wear it around the house before taking it outside. Looking uncomfortable in your clothes means you’ll never look stylish, regardless of how many pictures of natty fisherman you post up on your tumblr. (Nitty Gritty)

B Store ‘Victor’ Shoe

selectism - b-store-victor-shoes-01

Our soft spot for suede – regardless of the season – continues. This B Store ‘Victor’ Shoe does the job on that count and the fact that it’s a dark grey suede makes it a little easier to match with the rest of your winter wardrobe. Particularly as the whole ‘flashlights on your feet’ look is never a good one. (B Store)

01. Culture Club: Turner Prize 2010

“This week’s Culture Club focuses on the Turner Prize. This year’s shortlist may feel like a sensible collection of artists over 40 but that hasn’t diminished the ever fiery debate. Indeed those behind what is arguably the world’s best known art award say the purpose of it is simply to “promote public discussion of new developments in contemporary British art”.” (Independent).

02. The Anthology of Rap

“From the school yards of the South Bronx to the tops of the Billboard charts, rap has emerged as one of the most influential cultural forces of our time. In The Anthology of Rap, editors Adam Bradley and Andrew DuBois demonstrate that rap is also a wide-reaching and vital poetic tradition born of beats and rhymes.” (YUP).

03. DeAngelo Hall ties record with 4 INTs as Redskins close out Bears

“DeAngelo Hall looked like he was playing catch with Jay Cutler. When the Bears quarterback threw the ball, he was there to intercept it — four times.” (ESPN).

04. DesignPhiladelphia 2010, DuPont and Todd Bracher (Above).

“On Day One, we met Todd Bracher.  Considered by the NY Daily News to be “America’s Next Great Designer”, he spent ten years in a sort of real-world-training while he lived abroad in Copenhagen, Milan, and finally in London where he worked with Tom Dixon.  Now back in the States, Bracher has collected nominations in 2008 and 2009 for Designer of the Year.  He has worked with companies the likes of Jaguar designing their furniture collection, he was Professor of Design at ESAD in Reims, France, and presently holds the title of Creative Director for Georg Jensen.  Bracher lives and works in New York City but made the short trip to Philadelphia to participate and lend his perspective in interviews and a special seminar hosted by DuPont called Dialogues on Design.” (Yatzer).
