All nerd edition…

01. MacBook Air 11″ Model A1370 Teardown (above)

Highly nerd, but amazing that people love to take shit apart. Three pages worth of it. (ifixit)

02. Brasa Brings the Fireplace to the Tabletop

“emperatures have cooled down enough where many of us are now putting away the fans/air conditioning units and now bringing out the heaters. If you’re fortunate enough to have a fireplace in your home or apartment, the traditional open flame is probably the most inviting way to stay warm. But renters like ourselves could only dream of enjoying a fire indoors…until we realized there are now products available that safely bring the fire to the tabletop without the need of an actual fireplace.” (unplggd)

03. There Are 5,000 Janitors in the U.S. with PhDs [Education]

“There are 18,000 parking lot attendants in the U.S. with college degrees. There are 5,000 janitors in the U.S. with Ph.Ds. In all, some 17 million college-educated Americans have jobs that don’t require their level of education. Why? The data comes from a the Bureau of Labor Statistics” (gizmodo)

04. Study: BMW drivers are UK’s angriest motorists

“Great Britain is a relatively small island with a lot of people and therefore a lot of cars. So it’s fairly important that motorists on crowded roads are as civilized as possible… Naturally, though, not all Brits are pleasant drivers. Gocompare.com decided to poll 3,000 motorists to see, by vehicle make, which drivers are the meanest of the bunch.” (autoblog)

Selectism - Rapha Tailored Jacket (redux)

The first run of the Rapha Tailored Jacket sold out (my good friend Peter in Boston continues to rock his on and off the bike). Today, they’re back in stock and for me, a perfect time to re-introduce it our new readers. “The jacket is a collaboration with bespoke tailor Timothy Everest and is made from a technical fabric that is 100% wool and repels water and dirt. Other technical details include an action back, a storm collar and front hems that can be buttoned away from the legs when riding.”

Christian Westphal Spring/Summer 2011

Here’s a look at the Christian Westphal collection for the coming Spring 2011 season. “Christian Westphal’s Spring/Summer 2011 menswear collection is a looser, a little more colorful and a lot more casual chic than the previous collection, but his formula for quirky cuts is basically unchanged. After all, even the most die-hard urban warrior needs a break from black once in a while.” (cqc)

Ts(s) Herringbone Country House Jacket

From the looks of it, this Ts(s) house coat should be a soft and comfortable fit. “Translating to clothes the “unpredictableness with dignity” he is known for, designer Takuji Suzuki brings us a two button Country House Jacket as part of the ts(s) AW10 collection. In a casual approach to a formal piece of garment, this Raised Linen Irregular Herringbone blazer displays a sense of taste only to be seen at close up.” Porvacacao has them.

Gotham through picture postcards. Little further description is needed for New York in Postcards 1880-1980: The Andreas Adam Collection New York in Postcards 1880 1980: The Andreas Adam Collection Book . The book, edited by Thomas Kramer, releases officially on October 29, 2010, and presents no less than 900 postcards. This number, you might imagine, covers quite a lot of ground. From the obvious to slightly esoteric spots, the Adam’s collection provides comprehensive history through ephemera over a full century.

Captivating. And, available from Amazon New York in Postcards 1880 1980: The Andreas Adam Collection Book .
