Pac-Man Arcade 30th Anniversary Authentic Cocktail Table

Pac-Man Arcade 30th Anniversary Authentic Cocktail Table

We all know that Ms. Pac-Man beats the pants off of this game but we must give respect to the father of all things familiar. “Made by Namco, designers of the original Pac-Man video game, this arcade cocktail table commemorates the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man and is identical to the cabinets played in pizza parlors and malls since the 1980s. The console provides the same head-to-head gameplay, original graphics, and classic “Wocka, wocka, wocka” sound as the arcade games that helped establish Pac-Man as the most popular video game of all-time.” $3500 gets you this prize just in time for the holidays. Mitsuhiro Okamoto “Batta Mon” Sculptures

selectism - batta mon by misuhiro okamoto

More fashion related art this Friday.

On view through November 27, 2010 at Osaka’s CAS, Mitsuhiro Okamoto’s “Batta Mon” sculptures raise questions about the relationship between authenticity and imitation. The locust shaped works are produced from fake designer bags – with logos prominent – and the name plays off of the slang term for knock off.

Okamoto’s work was previously displayed at the Kobe Fashion Museum, but removed after Louis Vuitton protested pieces containing their brand logo. (via DB).

More “Batta Mon” after the jump.

Filson Black Label (North America) Collection for Autumn 2010

After testing the market with a sample offering earlier this year in Italy, Filson is ready to unveil its “black labelled” collection for the domestic market this weekend. The line includes 12 pieces, all of which feature slimmer cuts, and refined tailoring throughout. The line features Filson’s first attempt at the color black, as well as a cutting edge denim jacket and waxed wool. The price points are incredibly reasonable when compared to other USA made wax and wool products on the heritage market, and will be available on Filson.com, and at select Barney’s, Urban Outfitters, and Hilton’s Tent City this week. Some fashion connected art for you this Friday.

FACE (French American Cultural Exchange) and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy presents Guy Bourdin, In Between, a new exhibition featuring rare works by the late iconic French fashion photographer (1928 – 1991) at the Payne Whitney Mansion, home to the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York City. The show will be on display through December 10, 2010, and debuts in conjunction with the launch of In Between¸ a book published by Steidldangin and edited by Shelly Verthime.

The exhibition includes over 30 exquisite prints of vintage black and white images. Guy Bourdin’s first retrospective was staged at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in 2003. With a striking and unique palette of hyper realcolors, Bourdin created theatrical and dramatic mise en scene in the pre-digital era, and inaugurate a profoundly unique and intimate signature style.

Selectism - journal-de-nimes-01

Tenue De Nimes have just dropped their latest issue of Journal de Nimes. This time they’re focusing on dutch products – which makes sense, them being based in the Netherlands – and, from what we’ve seen, it looks just as good as the last one.

Like always, the digital version is available to read here and if you’re in town you can pick up an issue from the store.

Spreads from the magazine are after the leap.

Dana Lee Interview

Selectism - dana-lee-189-interview

The 189 have an interesting interview up with Dana Lee. Lee’s been on our radar for a good while now (since the A-Z to be painfully pedantic) and it’s nice to find out a little more about the label. Here’s a snippet from the interview:

How did you get involved in designing men’s garments? Did you start in women’s?

I started in Men’s. Since then I have been designing Men’s only. As a teen, I spent a lot of time in thrift stores and looking for dead stock.
My girlfriends would go to the mall, and I would take the bus alone to the East-end Army & Navy store scavenging for size small poly-cotton heather blue t-shirts and wool longjohns (mid-nineties, pre-American apparel). That was the start of it all.

This blazer (we’re English, so we’re very insistent on this point) is just dapper enough for our tastes. The ribbed cuffs give it a sporty feel – making it perfect for those days when you want to look sharp but don’t necessarily have to. (Forward)
