Panerai Luminor Composite PAM 386 Watch

Panerai Luminor Composite PAM 386 Watch

It is not often that I get excited for a new Panerai but Perpetuelle’s write-up on the new 386 is tasty. “Here’s a first look at the new Panerai PAM 386 which will be officially unveiled in Geneva at SIHH 2011.   Much like the Panerai Radiomir Composite PAM 339 which was arguably the most popular Panerai of 2010, there is no doubt that the PAM00386 will be a huge hit with Panerai fans, probably even bigger than the PAM 339.”

Porter for Mizuno Golf Bag

Porter for Mizuno Golf Bag

OK, ok. I love you Porter. While I may not golf (gimme a bike or squash racquet), many of our readers do and they’ll very much appreciate this brand extension by Porter for Mizuno. The bag features an aluminum frame and the very recognizable Porter look. The descrip. mentions that it borrows from the Yoshida collection as well. Very true. Zozo Japan has it – proxy time  or a long Tokyo holiday is in order.

Tough Duck Lined Vest

Tough Duck, a third-generation family owned brand, has “been manufacturing durable clothing for over 70 years,” There clothes are “100% cotton work garments” that are made of quality craftsmanship for tough jobsite conditions. The vest has a 12 oz. Cotton duck exterior with 6 oz. quilted polyester insulation which makes up for a really warm jacket. A couple details: 2 colorways, drop back kidney warmer, 2 chest pockets and heavy-duty brass zipper allows for an almost bulletproof vest. This would make an awesome layering vest for an already thick jacket. The vest is available at NorthernTool.

T.A.D Gear Special Service Sweater

T.A.D Gear Special Service Sweater

T.A.D gear uncovers a new arrival in their vault of tactical utilitarian attire. “Utilized by elite British forces during WWII’s North African Campaign, commando sweaters endured heavy combat abuse and succeeded in keeping soldiers warm during cold desert nights. We adopted the traditionally slim fit to maintain a sleek profile that’s ideal for layering, but integrated a full front zipper with mockneck collar so that this sweater also functions as a stylishly warm outer piece. Knit from heavy, premium grade Australian Merino, our sweater’s textile is finer, softer, more insulating, and more breathable than traditional wool. The fibers themselves are flame resistant and retain minimal odor.” The sweater is available at T.A.D Gear.

Edith Head: The 50 year career of Hollywood’s Greatest Costume Designer

Selectism - edith-head-01

Eye Magazine turns us onto this book on Edith Head. This book is a retrospective of her career which, to say the least, looks very interesting.

“Edith Head was a legendary costume designer who styled the stars of Hollywood’s golden age – a field which at the time was dominated by men. She received her big break on the film She Done Him Wrong, which starred Cary Grant and Mae West, and featured the often quoted line ‘why don’t you come up and see me some time’. West, who wrote the play Diamond Lil on which the film was based, was typically provocative in her brief to Head: ‘Make the clothes loose enough to prove I’m a lady, but tight enough to show ’em I’m a woman.’”

Curated turns us onto this piece of news:

“Originally designed for children’s rooms in 1953, the Eames “Hang-It-All” rack has been reimagined by Herman Miller’s Selects Line. Colorful balls have given way to walnut, with the wire frame given a powder coat. The Eames developed the hanger during their experiments with mass production – later perfected in seating furniture.”

Fuck You and Your Blog Journal by Ray Fenwick

selectism - fuck-you-and-your-blog

Now here’s something we can imagine an ex giving us. Inside is a plain journal Fuck You and Your Blog Journal by Ray Fenwick – so we could still use it, although it’d be tainted by the gift givers distaste of us – but the ronseal-esque cover would help us get the gist. Give it to that blogger you hate. (Mar Mar Co)

Shroud of Purrin Blazer by Nau

selectism - Shroud of Purrin Blazer by Nau

One of our favorite pieces from Nau’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection is the Shroud of Purrin Blazer. As with all Nau product, we’re attracted to the fully sustainable sourcing of material – the shell is 100% recycled. We’re also attracted to the functionality, all the hard wearing potential of a soft shell. Nau’s making something of a niche for the technical blazer, and that too we appreciate.

Plus, 5% of sales from the Shroud of Purrin Blazer go to Charity:Water. We can get behind that.

More images of the Shroud of Purrin Blazer after the jump.

Solmate “Poppy” recycled socks

selectism - solmate-socks-01

Our continuing love for a good pair of shoes has led to a a ridiculous amount of focus on socks – and for us, the crazier the better. These Solmate socks, made from recycled cotton yarns, float our boats these days. And, contrary to popular dull menswear beliefs, showcasing a mixture of patterns can only be a good thing. Lanvin Silk Jersey Sweatpants

selectism - lanvin-sweatpants-01

Did we post these up purely to make a ‘be like Kanye, jog in Lanvin’s’ joke? Yes we did. Did we kinda ruin the joke by announcing it in the last sentence? Yes we did. Do we actually like these sweatpants? No comment. (Browns)
