Triangle Belgian-Style Strong Golden Ale

selectism - Triangle Belgian-Style Strong Golden Ale

A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Dressed in an unassuming can, North Carolina’s Triangle Brewing Company Golden Ale is a solid Belgian with a good yeasty backbone (according to my brother, the exact thing you want in a Belgian). Triangle says of their brew, “This strong golden ale measures in at 8% & showcases a variety of the ingredients and brewing methods that help differentiate Triangle beers. The Strong Golden is fermented at a higher temperature than our other beers adding an undercurrent of fruitiness (although there is no fruit in the beer). Very lightly filtered, the Golden exhibits complex mouthfeel, strong malt flavors, a spicy hop presence and soothing alcohol warmth, followed by a clean, dry finish. It is excellent with food as well as served by itself. Bronze Medal Winner at 2009 Carolina Championship of Beer.”

Denham Marlon Shawl Dock Sweater

The minds behind Denham bring a classic sweater back to life. The “Marlon” Shawl Dock sweater infuses a heavy knit, contoured ribbed cuff that’s waffle thermal lined. The shawl collar will save your neck in any “windchill.” The “double leather faced ring” at the chestlow for a secure fit collar. More good things to come from the original “blue blood” designers.  The jacket is available at Revolver.

More looks after the click.

The “Unmakeable” Interactive Book

Selectism - unmakeable-01

Fast code design turns us onto Jonathan Safran Foer’s book ‘Tree of Codes’, which was once deemed unmakeable. According to FCD:

“The book is actually a kind of interactive paper-sculpture: Foer and his collaborators at Die Keure in Belgium took the pages of another book, Bruno Schulz’s The Street of Crocodiles, and literally carved a brand new story out of them using a die-cut technique.”

After being turned down by a host of publishers, Belgian publishers Die Keure proved that it was indeed possible. Take a leap to see more images and a video of how it was done.

CREEP by Hiroshi Awai Leaf Print Shirt

Selectism - creep-leaf-print-shirt

We’ve long been partial to a bit of print. It’s always difficult writing about different styles because it partially implies we’re throwing out the old, which is never the case. We’re simply adding variety to wardrobe through the method of printed shirts. Our only nitpick with this shirt are the leather openings to the chest pockets which are a detail too far. Despite that, it’d still look great underneath a jumper. (ASOS)

Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair + Alstermo Bruk

Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair + Alstermo Bruk

For Autumn 2010 Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair worked with Swedish luggage maker Alstermo Bruk, known for their quality trunk cases.

“Alstermo Bruk is one of Sweden’s oldest companies dating back to 1804, renowned for their classic travel cases, made with high craftsmanship and professionalism. The collaboration with Fifth avenue shoe repair begun with a number of show piece bags, designed exclusively for the fashion show Spring 10.

For Autumn 10 we find two new styles that put the symmetry out of order. The inspiration comes from utility cases such as instrument cases and are based on the idea to deconstruct the outer shape but still keep the classic detailing and finish of Alstermo Bruk. The material is a so called amo-fibre with leather details and an interior wooden frame, lined with a vintage check wool fabric.”

The cases are exclusive to Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair Stores and their online store.

Take a further look after the jump.

The Brooklyn Salsa Company

selectism - The Brooklyn Salsa Company

At the Brooklyn Salsa Company they don’t make your average chip dip jars. Instead, they produce multi-dimensional sauces in five varieties. Named after each of New York’s boroughs, the flavors range from Hot (Brooklyn) to Tropical (Queens). Use them as an everyday condiment… or, simply with your favorite tortilla chips.

This fall, they’ve also produced a Harvest flavor… which I’ll be dressing my leftover turkey with today.

A closer look at packaging from the Brooklyn Salsa Company after the jump.

Present have been expanding their own line collection for a while now and now they’ve brought it most of it online. These laptop cases are good looking and can fit a 15 inch laptop – contrary to popular blogging belief, it doesn’t have to be a mac – though it helps. (Present)

Nom De Guerre Heavy Wool Cardigan

Selectism - nom-de-guerre-cardigan-01

Sometimes we make recommendations that are so obvious we can’t even think of anything witty to say – like this chunky cardigan for instance. It’s cold out, so wrap up warm in a good cardigan and sit by the fire with some mulled wine and a copy of the hunter’s handbook. It’s the nu-workwear way. (Tres Bien)
