Some more Alden favorites from our staff. “An American classic, from an American icon. Alden makes longwings better than anyone. This shoe is no exception. Crafted from Horween Natural Chromexcel, this shoe is made Portland friendly through the use of Alden’s double leather and commando sole. The commando sole is waterproof and nonslip, making it ideal in the Pacific NW. Made on the Barrie last, these shoes also feature a decorative 360 degree reverse welt, painted brown brass eyelets, full leather linings, natural cork insole, full heel counters and steel shank through the arch for long lasting comfort and support.” Winn Perry has them.

So, whenever you have a post about bitchin’ shoes at a place like Winn Perry, by the time it’s posted the common sizes are already gone. As I type this this shoe is available in 7.5D, 9.5D, 11D and 11.5D. Not so useful for most of us with average sized feet (although I’m surprised to see 9.5 on the list).
I also wonder why shoe makers don’t make more of their products in the mid range of sizes. There are always surplus 8-and-smaller and 11-and-larger surplus shoes that the manufacturers took time and money to manufacture and often are sold at deep discounts, while us 9s or 10s are left hanging. Why not just make more 9s and 10s and fewer on the small and large ends? Just sayin.
