Selectism Giveaway | HP Envy 100 Printer

10 December 2010, 18.30 | Posted in technology | 6 comments »

HP Envy 100 Printer

Here’s a giveaway that I was lucky enough to spend some good time with. The HP Envy 100 is the first e-printer I have worked with. The HP E-Print tech allows for you and others to print from virtually any device, anywhere in the world. It’s possible through the built-in wifi found in the Envy 100. Once you use the touch screen to add it to your wireless network, the printer is assigned a private email address that you can share and use. Simply email a photo, image, text document, or even a PDF file to your Envy 100’s address and it will print it ont he fly.

To me it feels like a fax in some ways. For a good day, I gave out the Envy 100’s email address to friends and just watched in amazement at the documents they sent to it for printing. While I would not recommend giving everyone your Envy 100’s email address; it is clearly handy for sending files to remote offices and beyond. Hell, plug some into nightclubs and watch. These  Envy 100’s will be the new viral device. I’m having fun with mine.

You can also have some fun with an HP Envy 100 printer. We’re giving one away starting today!

How to win:

Join the Selectism on Facebook and leave a message on our HP Envy 100 Printer discussion page.

Taylor Stitch “Lavender” Oxford Shirt

San Francisco, California based design collective, Taylor Stitch, brings their rendition of the classic oxford. A custom-shirt company, TS, has all their “ready-to-wear” collection handmade in San Francisco. Their custom shirting is “handmade in Newark, New Jersey by a 3rd generation family business that has specialized in custom shirt making for over 75 years.” This shirt offers: “Japanese milled cotton, single needle tailoring, Corozo buttons and French interlinings.” With all the flannel and plaid out there, it’s quite comforting to see a brand represent the basics, especially the color “lavender.” If you’re man enough to wear a light blue oxford, check the “lavender” might be your new favorite shirt. Its available at Taylorstitch.

Ignacio Canales Aracil ‘The Fragility of Time’

Selectism - flower-sculpture-01

Fastcode turns us onto this new artwork by Ignacio Canales Aracil. Called ‘the Fragility of Time’ the entire sculpture is created with flowers. We’ll let Fastcode explain it:

“The sculptures — called, ambitiously, The Fragility of Time — are meticulously built out of plants and flowers plucked from various parks in the UK (with permission, of course). Aracil then flattens the blossoms and weaves them one by one over a cone-shaped paper mold. There’s no adhesive used here; the flower arrangement is its own support structure (comparable to a straw hat). About a month later, the flowers dry out, and Aracil removes the mold. The only addition is a coat of varnish to prevent the plants from absorbing moisture.”

Take a leap, see some more shots.

Selectism - hokey-stokes-01-curated

Curated turns us onto this Julia Feld artwork:

“Julia Feld, who lives in St. Louis and is both artist and scientist, is subject of the latest in a sold string of postings related to book carving. Feld’s work is absolutely spectacular. She smartly plays with themes drawn from the titles of her chosen canvases and meticulously works to incredibly tight detail. I love her Butterfly Specimen, see above, book.”

Civil War Blankets from Woolrich

selectism - Civil War Blankets from Woolrich

Here’s some cold Friday, heritage news. Woolrich, providing wool blankets from PA since  1830 celebrates their history and the legacy of supplying troops from 1861-65 with Civil War blankets. To be fair, we weren’t really expecting any Sesquicentennial tie-in product (honestly, this probably has nothing to do with that American history milestone), but appreciate direct nods to actual garment/life synergy. Woolrich has been making blankets for reenactors for decades, so we can also happily report that these blankets aren’t just specifically prepared for the urban woodsmen set. That’s the nice thing about the quartet of Civil War blankets really – handsome colors make for near universal appeal.

A detailed look at Woolrich’s Civil War blankets after the jump.

Selectism - gratis-website

Gratis is a new website that details all the free magazines doing the rounds. It’s a little slim right now (only two magazines) but it’s a very interesting concept and one we’ll be keeping an eye on.

Take a leap to see images of ‘Grey’, a skate magazine they’ve discovered.

APC Petit Standard Cords

Selectism - apc-petit-standard-cord-01

If there’s one scourge in menswear it’s that of the skinny jeans on non-skinny people. So, it’s with trepidation that we recommend these rather slim cords. Yeah, they look nice, but please stay away if you do lunges. Our eyes will thank you. (Ssense)

Alfred Sargeant ‘Thurlow’ Chukka Boot

Selectism - alfred-sargeant-thurlow-chukka-01

We’re not sure why this is, but a good pair of black chukkas are always a little difficult to find (those awful Red Wing postman boots don’t count). These would look great with some beaten up denim – think this picture – and the sole’s suitable for the rain. Always a bonus. (Alfred Sargeant)

Song remains the same, more images after the leap.
