Selectism | Around the Web

10 December 2010, 02.00 | Posted in Roundup | No comments »

letterpress Selectism | Around the Web

Mike Dacey of Repeat Press gives his roundup.

01. Preserve

New Zealand based website dedicated to the preservation of hand painted signage from around the world. Of course, the above image is a favorite.

02. A Curious Catalogue – Michael Leon

Nieves latest publication A Curious Catalogue is a “skateboard product catalogue of pencil drawn anti-graphics, spin-art wheels, and slalom gemstones. It was designed to take a romantic and fantastic vision of a skateboard company and make it ‘real’.” Super rad, love the spin-art wheels painted by holding a pen against a rolling skateboard wheel. (nieves)

03. Tom Sachs’ 10 Bullets

“This amazing video from artist Tom Sachs is worth the twenty minutes it takes to watch. It’s not about print but it is about a tight-running studio operation- something we can all aspire to. It’s inspirational. Imagine the Ryan McGinness Studio Manual interpreted by filmmaker Wes Anderson and you might get something like this…” (via printeresting)

04. Crazy Russian kids DIY bungee jumping

“Crazy Russian Parkour” videos just got one-upped. This girl is going to have falling nightmares for years. What is the rope even attached to? Are they holding it? (via The Wizard Gang)

Alexander McQueen “Asymmetric” Cardigan

Alexander McQueen “Asymmetric” Cardigan

Alexander McQueen will be missed for his avant-gaurde styling and timeless design. His  legacy still continues in the company and is seen in each collection. The “Asymmetric” cardigan is currently offered in “100% New Zealand merino wool” in dark blue. Today, the same cardigan was made for the Autumn/Winter collection in a silk blend in grey. The slim silhouette and modern S-styling button closure makes a great design. The shawl/turtleneck collar sets the tone for the season. A modern cardigan that would compliment the “turn-of-the-century” styling of “yesteryear.” It’s available at AlexanderMcQueen.

Helm Ray Ray Boots with Raleigh Denim

Helm Ray Ray Boots with Raleigh Denim

A nice pair of boots with just a touch of U.S.A. made denim. “HELM has partnered with North Carolina based Raleigh Denim to insert their US-loomed denim (by Cone Mills) into the Ray Ray style – an existing boot style that comes in brown leather and black leather as well… The Ray Ray boots are handmade in Istanbul by traditional artisans employed by Helm. Bolts of Raleigh Denim were sent there to be incorporated as a component along with the handmade soles from Italy, the calfskin from Holland, etc. The white layer exposed and embedded in the sole is rubber that has been melted and fused to the sole for both a bit of bounce in the sole, and the striped aesthetic.”

The Outlier Merino Pullover

09 December 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - The Outlier Merino Pullover

There have been times where we’ve harped on about the “perfect” gray sweatshirt. It’s an almost mythical garment sending us into frenzies about Japanese license Champion, loopwheeled this and that, and even the prep school favorite, Cotton Exchange.

All that often has us forgetting the glory of the simple merino sweater. Outlier drops their version into the fold this week. It’s simple, but like all Outlier product there is attention given to function and movement.

Made of super fine New Zealand merino wool in all the colors you might want for sweatshirt – grey, black, navy.

More photos after the jump.
