Ah, the holidays will not stop us from showing just a bit of Spring 2011 – days before the New Year really kicks the season into gear. Thom Browne has posted up a video of their Spring 2011 presentation to coincide with the launch of their new website. Let us know what you think of the runway video in our comments.

Selectism - Fuller's Jack Frost

A winter seasonal from Chiswick’s finest brewer, Fuller’s. “Brewed with Crystal malt and a dash of blackberries, Jack Frost delivers a fruity, robust yet refreshing flavour that lingers long on the palate.” This bitter is available through January. If you can’t find it, you won’t go wrong with Fullers gold standard London Pride.

Selectism - moss-birds-01-curatedmag

Curated turns us onto these:

“Available from Moss, Kristian Vedel’s Wooden Birds are among the unsung legends of Danish Design. First made in 1959, the birds were incredibly popular in the 1960s. Vedel himself was born in 1923, his work influenced early on by the Bauhaus and later became a central figure in the Danish design scene.”

Selectism | Around the Web

Look who’s back! Beau Colburn grips it this Thursday, Eve of Christmas Eve.

01. Banksy (Yes, Banksy) on Thierry, EXIT Skepticism & Documentary Filmmaking as Punk
“Besides, if the movie was a carefully scripted prank you can be sure I would’ve given myself some better lines. I would’ve meticulously planned my spontaneous off-the-cuff remarks. I love that famous Jack Benny come-back to a heckler – “You wouldn’t say that if my writers were here.” But I’ve always wondered – did his writers tell him to say that?” (atwt)

02. “And, they seek the life essence.” — Merlin Mann on Dr. Strangelove
“We try. Sometimes. We cobble together ideas, and we experiment. We alternate between good cop and bad cop. We struggle to understand other people’s motivations. We kiss then kick then kiss then kick innumerable adjacent asses.
And—oh, yes—we definitely know we’re always playing it off legit. We make it all look easy, because we are good at this.
So, Strangelove’s wonderful and torturous silences are where you’re forced to confront that ineffable and annoying reality—even if you don’t tell anyone else… For me, the cringe-inducing echoes pinballing off the walls of the war room made the same inappropriate noise as the thoughts that were bouncing around in that thick skull of mine back in 1987—through which same skull, you’ll recall, Mr. Kubrick had been kind enough to unknowingly trepan. Really look at it. It’s Python. It’s Seinfeld. It’s David Brent. And, it’s everything I love about funny. (kfg)

03. Seltzer Works (above)
“In the early 1900s, thousands of seltzer deliverymen criss-crossed the nation, schlepping heavy glass bottles full of fizzy water to millions of thirsty customers. Today, with only a handful of deliverymen left in the country, the siphon machines at Gomberg Seltzer Works don’t turn like they used to. Most of the old customers have passed on (or moved to Florida). But there are still bubbles being made by third generation seltzer filler Kenny Gomberg.” (pov)

04. Comic Sans Criminal
“Helping people like you learn to use Comic Sans appropriately.” (csc)

IDEA International Balloon Speaker

IDEA Balloon Speaker

A pretty simple designed speaker for your travel needs. Here’s some thoughts on it. “The first sound we expected to hear out of its spongey, 2″ spherical surface was the word ‘novelty.’ Contrary to our preconceptions, this little fella has proven quite versatile while emitting a respectable sound. Like the Card Speaker, it’s great for those moments when you want to share some music in casual settings: the dinner table, a picnic, the shower…”  ”Ghostly has them.

“The Disposable Skateboard Bible” Book

23 December 2010, 21.30 | Posted in Books & Magazines | No comments »

disposable skate bible 1 The Disposable Skateboard Bible Book

Our brothers at Curated covered this book back in 2009. I’m not sure how the hell we missed it.

“Following the release of Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art The Disposable Skateboard Bible Book(2004), author Sean Cliver continued working on cataloging the most important skate graphics ever released. The result is a more comprehensive volume, The Disposable Skateboard Bible The Disposable Skateboard Bible Book, which acts as the ultimate encyclopedia of skateboard decks. Cliver entered the skate world proper in 1989 when he became a designer at Powell-Peralta. His experience lends to offering an insiders view of the artistic culture surrounding the material presented. Included are brief vignettes and recollections from personalities ranging from Tony Hawk and Mark Gonzales to Steve Caballero and Stacy Peralta.”

This is a great stocking stuffer for just about any guy who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and beyond. The Disposable Skateboard Bible Book

“Ever since we launched our jean collection in 2008, we’ve met lots of interesting customers along the way. Because our jeans start out raw and age uniquely to each wearer’s habits and lifestyle, we’re never short on inspiration as people share with us the places our jeans have traveled to and the work that’s been done in them over the years.

The Singularities video series debuts in early 2011.

2011 Lunar Calendar by Dhadwal and Repeat Press

Our friends at Repeat worked this lunar calendar. I love circle posters. “This is a 2011 lunar calendar designed by Amar Dhadwal and printed by Mike Dacey of Repeat Press. The calendar features a graphic representation of the phases of the moon printed in silver ink, with a grid overprinted in a clear gloss showing the months and days of the year. Printed on 100lb French Nightshift Blue paper using a Vandercook SP20 letterpress, the calendar measures 9.5×22″.” Etsy – of course.
