Kris Van Assche for EASTPAK Autumn/Winter 2011

EASTPAK comes out of the gates today with a strong bag collection worked over by Kris Van Assche. “For his 13th collection Fall-Winter 2011/2012, KRISVANASSCHE has worked in association with EASTPAK, the brand for bags and rucksacks… An original collaboration where Kris Van Assche captures the codes that make EASTPAK so popular among teenagers and absorbs them into his stylish and sophisticated world, where luxurious details as well as modern masculinity are of the essence. With a strong urban spirit engrained with cool elegance, KVA has created 7 designs available in three combinations of fabrics and colors.”

Adam Kimmel Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection Presentation

Adam Kimmel Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection Presentation

Adam Kimmel remains a favorite of ours. This week we check out his new Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection, which has been presented officially yesterday. Kimmel continues to present garments that are luxurious, well cut, yet comfortable, this following his very own signature style.

Concerning the inspiration for the new collection, the designer says the follwing: “I’d always wanted to do a Pacific North West collection. I grew up watching Twin Peaks and Rivers Edge and then a few years ago I came across an artist by the name of Dan Attoe. Dan was then known for his neon bar-sign sculptures but it was his paintings that captured my imagination. I was instantly drawn to his images of the rugged sublime that is the Pacific Northwest – where snow covered volcanoes and primeval redwood forests are the backdrop for the shit-kicking, off-roading antics of his strange biker dudes and Paintallica philosophers.”

Kimmel went on spent time with the artist mentioned above, also shooting the accompanying campaign film with Attoe. Hopefully we can show you that soon.

For now take a full look at the new collection after the jump.

Selectism - opening-ceremony-blazer

Opening Ceremony continue moving their own line, which is essentially ‘fashion’ stuff that doesn’t scare off all the nu-woodsmen, with pieces like this. And whaddya know? It looks good. *Insert cliche ridden text about how you’ll look good in it, so on and so forth* (Opening Ceremony)

Steven Alan for Nike Sportswear Collection

21 January 2011, 04.20 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 comment »

Steven Alan for Nike Sportswear Collection

Nike’s work with Steven Alan on a new signature collection is possibly a sign of the direction of future collaborative works to come.  Nike made available their archive to Alan who selected four models for the collection which features his “classic with a twist aesthetic.” “Visiting the Nike archives, Alan was drawn to the Air Zoom Toki, Air Max Talache Low AC, Air Zoom Lava Dome, and Air Zoom Magma AC. He then stripped each performance-based style down to its basic form before adding his famous detailed sensibility.” With Takahashi’s Gyakusou Running Collection for NSW which also extended to apparel, we’re wondering what else may be in store in the future …

The collection drops tomorrow, January 21st through Steven Alan doors and online.

Minimalist effect in maximalist advertising

Beau Colburn brings the Thursday roundup. Follow him on instagr.am. #recommended

01. Phonography: Phone-Based Photography Exhibition Features Renowned Creatives
“Noted graphic designer and silkscreen artist, Josh Higgins, became fascinated by this question and was particularly interested in exploring how creative-types, from designers to musicians to photographers, use phone-based photography.” (imprint)

02. Sacha Baron Cohen In ‘The Dictator’: To Star As Romantic Saddam Hussein Character
“And you thought Borat and Bruno were uncomfortable to watch.

Actor/comedian/boundary-pusher Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to star in a new film titled ‘The Dictator,’ Paramount Films announced on Thursday. The movie will be based on the Iraqi novel ‘Zabibah and the King,’ which was first published anonymously — and then revealed to be written by then-dictator Saddam Hussein.”  (huffingtonpost)

03. Minimalist effect in maximalist advertising (above)
“Our last project is about simplicity and we try to find alternate simple versions for some package samples of the international brands. We think almost every product needs some review for minimal feeling.” (a2591)

04. John Roderick: West Seattle Is Where Seattlites Go To Die
“The editors of the Weekly asked if my column this week could incorporate a West Seattle theme, and though I normally don’t take editorial suggestions from those drunks, it just so happens that this week I’m vacationing in Florida, and West Seattle is absolutely the Florida of Seattle. So I’m going to just replace the word “Florida” with the words “West Seattle” in my column this week, and I think you’ll agree the observations hold.”
