Maison Martin Margiela 0 Artisanal Woven Band Leather Armor Jacket

Yes, words are failing me on this one, but for those who understand this leather armor jacket from Margiela, we applaud you. “An individual, handcrafted piece made from 100% leather that was treated in-house to create a vintage effect. The leather was then cut into strips by hand and braided . Please handle with care- specialist clean only.” On the pricey side: $12,000. Oki-ni (of course).

(capsule) NY | Ally Capellino

selectism - (capsule) NY | Ally Capellino

One thing we found particularly exciting at (capsule) is this forthcoming waxed cotton and leather computer satchel from British bag maker Ally Capellino. Expertly modeled here by the brand’s own Michelle Noel, the bag is a natural extension of Capellino’s collaboration with Apple. What’s best about the bag? It’s designed for the often ignored – for cool carrying options – 17-inch Macbook Pro. Thinking smaller? You’ll be happy to find that Capellino is also launching a smaller version of the classic rucksack.

Details and more after the jump.

selectism - (capsule) NY | Wolverine 1000 Mile

We’ve been fans of (a small portion of) the Wolverine 1000 Mile collection since its initial launch. This trio of baseball glove leather boots – the Brendel, a 5inch chukka wedge -  shown at (capsule) NY, gives us a little more to love from the Rockford, MI-based brand. Also notable, the popular Addison boot will take three two-tone color schemes for Autumn/Winter 2011.

Check the Addison boots and more direct shots of the baseball glove leather boots after the jump.

Sperry Band of Outsiders “Sasquatch” Chukka Shoes

Sperry Band of Outsiders "Sasquatch" Chukka Shoes

While not officially named “Sasquatch,” these Sperry for Band of Outsiders chukkas were samples from the current Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. These are one of two sample pairs produced – how they ended up in Berlin will remain a trade secret. Unfortunately, they’ll never see the light of day – so they say.

Denham Teflon “Skin” Jean

18 January 2011, 20.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Denham Teflon "Skin" Jean

Jason Denham, the brains behind Denham the jeanmaker, bring us a new take on denim. The “Skin” jean is a slim fitting pant that offers a “Virgin Black Teflon” coat. The welt pocket detail has a button closure for added security of each pocket. There’s also a hunting detail at the knee for more movement and less constriction. This detail takes note from older style hunting pants. “An innovative yoke construction visually drops the posture of the front waistline whilst retaining a standard wearable rise measurement and all signature details.” A true collector’s item that not only fits well, but it will bring high contrast fading to the fabric that will look very interesting over time. It’s available at RevolverSF.

Uniforms for the Dedicated Mohair Sweater

Uniforms for the Dedicated Mohair Sweater

Uniforms for the Dedicated is a brand that I’ve recently been following. There distinctive traits of traditionalism and modernism bring a really interesting collection. The “Ben Anas Loose Knit Mohair Sweater” is one example of the craftsmanship of this young company. The piece comes in black and is made up of 50% acrylic, 30% wool and 20% mohair. The sheer look adds to the dimensions of the piece and make it versatile between seasons. Revolve has them.

Video | “The Ice Queen” on NOWNESS

18 January 2011, 18.54 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

“British photographer Graeme Montgomery’s film The Ice Queen, commissioned exclusively for NOWNESS, distills the frozen beauty of winter. Close-ups on blocks of ice conjure glacial landscapes, interspersed with luxe on-the-slopes and après-ski accessories: sporty Burberry aviators, fiery-lensed Prada sunglasses and a Doctor Zhivago-style fur hat by Harrods.”

Lego Letterpress

Selectism - lego-letterpress-01

You know that feeling you get when you see something you had no idea you wanted but now you’ve seen it you can’t imagine living without it? That’s how we feel about Lego Letterpress. Our walls currently feel bare without a lego print on them. But then again, we’re probably just odd. There’s still some left on Physical Fiction so we’d advise getting there before we do.
