J. Lindeberg Men's Fall/Winter 2011 Looks

J. Lindeberg presents their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. The use of modern and new fabrics continues to push the line forward while much of the industry pushes on heritage. On the color theme for the collection: “The colour palette references nature in the depth of winter, the dark blue water of the fjords, deep evergreen of the forest and shades of light grey skies are contrasted against the vibrant yellows, reds and acid greens of lichen covered rocks.”

Riveted Tables by Adam Steiner

selectism - Riveted Tables by Adam Steiner

Adam Steiner’s tables cut a masculine stance. Born in New York, and now working in Paris, Adam Steiner studied as a sculptor before gravitating to the stark beauty of 19th-century industrial metalwork. His interest in the aesthetic is apparent in his most recent pieces, this series of ruggedly handsome tables. (via Design Boom).

More looks at Steiner’s riveted tables after the jump.

Libetine-Libertine Belts and Laptop Sleeve Autumn 2011

A few more looks from the Berlin and Paris shows. Libertine-Libertine presented a few belts and laptop sleeve.  Blues and reds on black and beige work well but I’m not sure where outside of Europe they’re being stocked. Check around.

dries vannoten sweater 1 Dries Van Noten Argyle Sweater

Dries Van Noten is a third generation tailor that has been creating collections since 1986. He has since been hounoured and awarded various titles for his contemporary collections and work. A designer that has motivated and inspired many people in the world of fashion. I’ve never been a fan of the argyle print, but this would be the only exception. A lightweight navy sweater that fits and drapes well. It’s available at Sydney’s.

Aviation Inspired Furniture from Restoration Hardware

Selectism - RH-Aviator-01-curatedmag

Curated turns us onto this news:

“Envisioned by Chairman and Co-CEO Gary Friedman, who was particularly fascinated by designs from the “Golden Age”, the new range of Aviation inspired furniture from Restoration Hardware reinterprets the sleeks lines of these built-for-speed designs in the modern setting.

The pieces – many of which are hand-crafted – are made with Antiqued Whiskey Leather and a mix of stainless steel and aluminum. The Atlantic Coupe Leather Chair, for was inspired by the 1938 Bugatti Atlantic Coupe, an iconic and very rare automobile. Also, the Spitfire Chair ) is modeled after the cupped seats and padded arms of sleek WWII fighter planes.”

Jil Sander Rabat Techno Parka

Jil Sander Rabat Techno Parka

Jil Sander brings a new piece for the Spring, the “Rabat Techno Parka.” A great detail is the hidden hood feature on the jacket’s rear collar, I think more jackets should have this detail. The jacket also features a “grip-tape throat tab” which sounds crazy enough that you need this piece. There are adjustable tabs on sleeves with waist slash pockets as well. A anorak with taste and fit made in Italy with strong attention to detail. It’s available at Saks.

Steven Heller on Prison Stripes

selectism - Steven Heller on Prison Stripes

There is some history we don’t want surfacing as a fashion trend. (We’re looking at you, Neighborhood). That said, Steven Heller’s “Stripes Strip Humanity” from imprint is terrific and our tip for read of the day. He begins, “Prison uniforms are graphically designed so an inmate can be immediately recognized as such. Originally a horizontal white and black ‘bee-striped’ uniform was the most popular (and stereotypical) prison garb in the U.S.. Striped prison uniforms commonly used in the 19th and twentieth centuries were abolished in the United States during the mid century because ‘their continued use as a badge of shame was considered undesirable.’”

The rest, complimented by some fantastic photographs, can be read here.

Our big brother site showcased Soulland’s presentation a few days ago, but here’s a closer look at a couple of pieces from the collection. Carrying on from their SS11 collection, they’re focusing on the smaller details, be it a shirt collar or the cuffing on a varsity jacket.

The Herschel Supply Co. “Little America” Backpack

herschel-backpacks

Full disclosure: I’ve been running with a Herschel laptop bag for a while and they do their job. The price point is strong for those uncertain on making a high end commitment to their day bag. The same holds true for this their “Little America” backpack as well. “Classic backpack style with a traditional rucksack flap from Herschel. Fully lined with Herschel’s custom fabric, featuring internal media pocket, padded shoulder straps and breathable padded back for support. Drawstring and leather buckle straps for closure. Front pocket detail with leather strap buckle and zip closure, along with inner key ring.” Need Supply as them.

(capsule) Paris | One Nine Zero Six Reversible Trench Coat

Selectism - 1906-reversible-trenchcoat-01

One of the standout brands for us was new (but old) brand One Nine Zero Six. An old English brand, they’d previously been making rugby uniforms for school children before someone started using the factory to make clothes for adults. The clothes veer towards solid basics as opposed to heritage ‘classics’ and this reversible trench coat is a perfect example of the collection.

See the other side after the leap.
