J. Crew Indigo Fleece Anorak Jacket

J. Crew delivers an “Indigo Fleece Anorak” pull-over jacket for Spring 2011. “We took an ultra-hearty french terry fleece, dyed it in real indigo,” and “washed it to absolute softness for a cool vintage-denim effect.” The fleece piece looks really soft and the French terry material is amazing on. The jacket offers a hood with a “henley” styled collar closure, button placket, long sleeves, and a rib trim on the cuffs. A great piece for the natural indigo dye fan. Available at J.Crew.

Tod's Marlin Hyannisport Loafer Shoes

These Italo-made loafers from Tod’s come in a deep red with a dominant deck outer sole. The color is outstanding though the price could be tough for some. Nevetheless, it’s a great looking shoe. Worth a shot. Barneys has them.

nonnative Dweller 2-Way Bags

I’m going to immediately recommend you dive into the gallery after the “read more” to get a strong look at these leather bags from Japan’s nonnative line. Their Dweller 2-way bag series is made from lightweight cow leather that looks soft and supple. Nothing too rigid in these bags. The strap detail is well done as well. What we have here are beautiful day bags. Available in beige, navy blue, and black.

Brand Focus | A Kind Of Guise

Selectism - akindofguise-fall2011-1

A Kind of Guise popped up out of nowhere (to us at least) not too long ago. We first featured them back in July of last year, but we were still interested to find out more about them. Founded in 2009, A Kind of Guise (or AKOG for short). Based in Munich their first collection utilised leather from an old medicine ball factory, using it to create a limited edition of bags (which we’ve also covered before).

The name comes from Dion DiMucci’s ‘The Wanderer’. “There is a part in the song that goes ‘Oh well I’m the type of guy who will never settle down. Where pretty girls are well, you know that I’m around’. We really liked ‘type of guy’ and realized it could work for us. So we rebuilt it into ‘kind of guys’.

They’ve mainly made bags and mens garments that veer on the side of casual without going into streetwear. They’re not putting themselves into any design box yet though, their aim for now is to create limited edition pieces that have a personal touch to them. “AKOG is an expression of ourselves and our influences. Basically, what we are is what we create.”

Bruce Weber for Dedon “Easy”

weber 01 selectism Bruce Weber for Dedon Easy

Montauk isn’t the most innovative setting for a lifestyle shoot, but in the hands of the talented Mr. Bruce Weber, Dedon’s “Easy” campaign is just that. The German outdoor furniture firm celebrates the all-American summer with all-American girls.

Dazed Digital debuted the short behind-the-scenes film today (view that at link), noting, “Legendary US photographer has once again teamed up with luxe furniture make Dedon for a new campaign and film. Dazed today premieres ‘Easy, exclusive Behind-the-Scenes footage filmed on location at Montauk, off the American east coast. Featuring two of Weber’s favourite girls – 90s super model Elaine Irwin and Dree Hemingway – the clip shows them dancing around a Dedon chair and relaxing in a nautical environment. The main film, ‘Barefooting around the world’, is the natural follow up to ‘Tree House’, Weber’s previous collaboration with Dedon and its founder, Bobby Dekeyser. The mammoth campaign shoot involved over 90 people and included creatives like set designer Stefan Beckaman and Dedon’s Creative Director for the shoot, Alex Wiederin.”

A selection of Weber’s images for Dedon follow after the jump.

The Scifen Company Spring 2011

selectism - The Scifen Company Spring 2011

Apparel with hip-hop roots isn’t just about bold logos and graffiti based graphics. Barmak Badaei’s second season of the new look Scifen Company exhibits a paired down aesthetic with bold attention to fabric. Badaei’s take on classics, if you will, has a brash edge to it for sure, but isn’t without strong detailing and obvious considerations for the minutiae of manufacture.

We caught Scifen’s French Terry Crew in Vegas. We follow with a few highlights from the Spring collection. Coats above, more after the jump.
