2011 London Tweed Run

Brooks turned us onto some news Londoners, and cyclists looking to get tweed in London should know about. “Ladies, Gentlemen. We’ve announced the date for the third annual London Tweed Run. The event will be on Saturday 9 April 2011, with registration opening at noon on Saturday 26 February 2011 from our website, www.tweedrun.com . We’re proud to welcome Brooks as a sponsor again this year.”

SOG Powerlock S60 Multi-Tool

SOG Powerlock S60 Multi-Tool

The king of the multi-tool turned me onto the SOG brand. Given the opportunity to hold one in hand, I can see why. Prior to the SOG, my experience was limited to the complexity of the utilitarian swiss-army sized pocket knife. Jumping into the plier/gripper based arena that SOG works in (they also make knives that have almost cult status amongst users)  brings new variations in tools and weight. The Powerlock S60 SOG Powerlock S60 Multi Tool, that SOG sent over, sits in a nice position in their multi-tool line. It’s fully constructed from stainless steel and includes 22 tools and formations. You can feel it in the weight of the S60.

Handle covers protect and secure the hand when using the SOG in the open plier position as shown above.  Lift either handle cover open and you’ll expose a strong series of tools including a serrated blade, an impressively aggressive hand-held saw, and various drivers. It has what I consider to be fairly standard but necessary tools. Having the v-cutter, found in their SOG S63 SOG Powerlock S60 Multi Tool, would be interesting, but probably unnecessary for some. Decide for yourself as both are quality and rugged multitools. Amazon SOG Powerlock S60 Multi Tool has them.

King-O-Wear Wool Jacket

A company that started in the 1920s, “King-O-Wear” began on the East Coast as an outerwear manufacturer and U.S. military contractor. In 2010, they relocated their manufacturing to California and have gained lots of attention since then. Their wool jacket is made of Woolrich material and is lined with satin layer. A great lightweight piece for warmer days. Available at King-O-Wear.

A Recap from Inspiration 2011 in Los Angles, CA

This weekend I was able to be apart of history. The 2nd Annual “Inspiration” event was held at the Queen Mary Ship in Long Beach, California. The entire event was put on by Rin Tanaka and his team. Rin Tanaka is a clothing historian and artist who’s responsible for the My Freedamn! A Recap from Inspiration 2011 in Los Angles, CA book series. The event consisted of fashion brands, surf board companies, vintage vendors, and musicians. The 2-day expo showed many popular brands like Levi’s, Wrangler and Lewis Leathers to name a few. Of the brands represented, I was able to see a couple that were interesting enough to show.

You can see a wide selection of the goods and products showcased at Inspiration after the click.

Charming short from the folks at Deschutes Brewery of Bend, Oregon. A young couple go on an adventure to all the landmarks that inspire Deschutes beers. She’s awful cute, too.

Directed by Scott Coffey and song, Beach House, by the Cave Singers.

The Master Chart of Fashion Influence

01. The Big Chill presents Mixcloud with Alexander Nut, DJ MK and more

“A raft of formidable DJs will be spinning records from different eras and sub-genres, with secret guest (“A Ninja Tune legend”) headlining. DJ MK will play a ’90s Golden Era’ set, DJ Blakey will take care of ’00s Club Bangers’, Alexander Nut (most appealingly of all) will take on ‘Future Hip Hop’, while Disorda attends to UK sounds, Breakin’ Break brings the 70s B-boy cuts and Chris Read covers 80s electro/rap.” (factmag)

02. J. R. Moon Pencils

“The J. R. Moon Pencil Company was founded in 1961 by James R. Moon. Moon was a pencil industry veteran, having previously worked at both the Linton and American pencil companies, following a career as a school teacher. Some background information on the company…” (penciltalk)

03. The Master Chart of Fashion Influence (above)

“The Master Chart of Fashion Influence as New York fashion week comes to a close. The wall street journal unscientific charting of the New York fashion industry’s ecosystem.” (wsj>notcot)

04. Killer paper backdrop illusion for your web cam

“If you were on a video conference call with Michel Gondry, we’re pretty sure he’d join in with one of these. Architect Ryuji Nakamura created the Midget & Giant paper house as part of a workshop at DESIGNEAST 01 late last year.” (core77)

PRPS Spring/Summer 2011

PRPS – one of the champions in the denim market – continue to refine their outerwear. Season to season, they continue to gain strength and position themselves father away from the singular denim game. Chambray and worked out tops, including a waist length leather jacket, offer contemporary and casual looks that are pretty accessible to most.

Levi’s Saddle for UNIK Bike, Fixerati & Brother Cycles

Levi’s Saddle for UNIK Bike, Fixerati & Brother Cycles

Levi’s works over their denim into the form of a saddle for this (one-off?) with UNIK Bike, Fixerati & Brother Cycles. “as produced in collaboration with the Belgian UNIK Bikes , who assembled the frame created by Brother Cycles and components Fixerati.” We like the saddle. Your denim will bleed onto your saddle anyways – so why not make it match. Then again, that stitching may not be comfortable for long. (f)

Denham Mohawk Chinos

18 February 2011, 21.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

denham mohawk chinos 03 Denham Mohawk Chinos

Amsterdam’s Denham follows and works the heritage movement better than most. Their latest Mohawk chino uses old Dutch Army tents  for fabrication. “The new men’s Mohawk pays homage to 1950’s work wear chinos through the use of Talon hardware and cat-eye suspender buttons and generally excruciating attention to detail. These new chinos takes those ideas into the present day adding tailored waistband and Denham’s signature darted articulation. The Mohawk shape is available in a variety of different colours as well as the limited edition Re-Cut fabrication which employs washed Dutch Army Tent disassembled and re-crafted into the main fabric.”
