Linda Vännström ‘Oops’ Chair

Selectism - oops-chair-01

Here’s something we could use. Linda Vännström has designed a chair that turns errant wine spills and other beverage catastrophes and turns them into works of art. Actually, that’s a little disingenuous as this chair takes ink blots and artfully places them into the fabric, giving the chair a distinctive ‘what would have happened if Jackson Pollock was a messy eater’ look. (fastcode design)

Take that leap, see more pictures.

Jenny Back’s Lean Lamp

Curated turns us onto this lamp. Yeah, we get turned onto lamps and shelves these days, what of it?

“Shown in Stockholm, Jenny Back’s Lean features a simple lampshade attached to a bronze handle. Supported by a coated triangular base, the brass creates great contrast with the black and white surface options of both base and shade. Designed for Swedish lighting manufacturers Örsjö Belysning. Back has also produced a smaller table lamp, which may have more application for most folks.”

Furni “Rockassins”

selectism - Furni "Rockassins"

Canadian brand Furni might not ring a bell around these parts – the brand typically deals in clocks – but their latest special project, the “Rockassins” have great appeal. Produced by a 40 year old firm, a short drive from Furni’s Montreal base, the moccasins come in supple Brazilian leather and feature a crepe sole.

The price, we might add, is pretty good.

View details of the “Rockassins” after the jump.

Vegas | Aether Autumn/Winter 2011

selectism - vegas | aether autumn/winter 2011

A few new styles are on the horizon from Aether. Most notable is the Polar Trench, which essentially extends Aether’s popular Cloud Jacket – insulated with Primaloft – for optimal coverage. Think tech designed to meet the needs of formal wear, the shoulders are also widened slightly to accommodate suite jackets. Primaloft features again in a new insulated version of the Fall Line. Last, but not least, Aether also has their own take on the cycling jacket… 3M throughout and pockets in all the right places.

Excuse the silly poses, we were having fun with this collection. View all three jackets after the jump.

Taylor Supply ‘Welder’ Jacket

Selectism - taylor-supply-welder-jacket-01

If you’re still on the lookout for some waxed outerwear in your life, you could do a lot worse than this burgundy jacket from Taylor Supply. There’s not much we can say about waxed jackets that hasn’t been said a thousand times before, but this one looks good. And, sometimes, that’s all there is to it. (Garbstore)

Dries Van Noten Trainers

Selectism - dries-van-noten-trainers-01

If this was an usher song, we’d say these trainers remind us of some Common Projects we once knew. That aside, these do look nice – although we’d be a little worried that they look a little too spick and span, if you know what we mean. We realise we’re not really selling this shoe, so consider this post a slight recommendation. (The Corner)

Sunspel Long Sleeved Striped Shirt

Selectism - sunspel-long-sleeve-striped-shirt

While It’s a tad early to be wearing tees on their own, they can be worn if you’re a confirmed LOL’er (lover of layering). There’s no shortage of wardrobe essentials – especially in this age of the neverending how-to guide – but your wardrobe will thank you if you add this shirt to the collection. (Sunspel)

Beau Colburn does Thursday’s roundup.

01. River Maps
“I wanted to create a series of maps that gives people a new way to look at rivers: a much more modern, urban type of portrayal. So I turned to the style of urban transit maps pioneered by Harry Beck in the 1930s for the London Underground. Straight lines, 45º angles, simple geometry. The result is more of an abstract network representation than you would find on most maps, but it’s also a lot more fun.”

02. Introducing Pennant (above)
“Pennant is an interactive history of baseball like none other seen before. Using Pennant’s rich interface fans can browse and view data from over 115,000 games that have taken place from 1950 to 2010. Seasons, games and events are graphically represented in a clear, easy to interpret manner that takes them beyond the numbers.” (chitwoodandhobbs)

03. Flaming Lips Make Smartphone Symphony With 12 YouTube Clips
“The Flaming Lips’ new single is a YouTube symphony that requires 12 smartphones to be properly heard.” (wired)

04. The King of Apple talk radio
“In the middle of a live broadcast discussing Twitter’s new president, Google’s Android market share and why Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 is a terrible name for an operating system, the guest pauses to ask his co-host: “Speaking of well-hung Wookies, does this show have a sponsor?” (fortune )

Jymoku Recycled Bags

18 February 2011, 00.30 | Posted in Accessories | 2 comments »

Jymoku Recycled Bags

A brand new addition to the Inspiration LA show was the recycled bag company, Jymoku. The backstory to the company is that owner of Jymoku goes out to flea markets, estate sales and fabric stores to source awesome used fabrics that are strong and resilient. He then has each piece cut up and remade into three different bag styles: a tote, handbag and a messenger bag. He often uses old belts to make the handles and old military straps to make the closures.

This brand was probably one of the most interesting because I haven’t seen anything like it before.  I actually bought a bag for myself and I have to say it is really well made. On the flight back home it held a laptop, DSLR, a jacket, shoes and a carton of cigarettes. For the fabric’s age, I thought it was going to rip right through but it didn’t. A great product from a small company based out of Los Angeles. The company doesn’t have a site at the moment, but keep an eye out for the brand and its collection.

More looks after the click.
