Appalachian Dining Chair

15 February 2011, 14.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

Selectism - rbw-01-curatedmag

Curated turns us onto this piece of news:

“The Appalachian Dining chair, from the quirky Rich Brilliant Willing, marries painted steel and wood in a variety of configurations. One that speaks most vividly is with cotton webbed seat, adding a third color and texture to the mix. A caned seat option is also available, but doesn’t generate the same depth of contrast. The steel can be, as seen above, both muted and vibrant, also adding to the rang of possibility.

Available from Rich Brilliant Willing – three guys, Theo Richardson, Charles Brill Alexander Williams, who understood the perfect way to play off their respective names.”

Selectism - spellbound-autumn-2011-01

Here’s a look at Spellbound’s newest collection. With fashion week going on, it’s welcome respite to see a cookbook that’s focused on wearable pieces. While those pre-worn denim will be a bone of contention, the rest of it is pretty hard to fault. In fact you could even replicate these outfits and not look absolutely crazy (though you might look odd if you don’t wear shoes).

Take a leap to see the rest of the collection.

Selectism - robert-geller-sweatshirt-01

We’re not sure when this happened to us, but we’re not shocked by dip dye anymore. In fact, it’s now downright pedestrian. We’re actually more concerned about the 3/4 length sleeves, which remains a mystery to most folks. They’re not really suited to cold weather, but they do look good come spring time. (Aloha Rag)

01. Chris Connett Working

“Here are some photos from Chris’s daughter Emma of him working at his shop and conventions during the 70′s and 80′s.  Here is  great action shot of Chris tattooing the Leopard man!” (Awesome leopard tattoos from Old Ink).

02.  Books About Books

Working in a library, it is amazing how consistently one is asked, “Which is your favorite book?” I generally stutter and give a muddled reply about how I like the idea of an accumulation of books, or something along those lines. If really pressed, I have recently started mentioning that I like books about books. In my case, given the nature of the MoMA Library’s collection, our books about books generally focus on the small and merry niche of modern and contemporary art publications and publications by artists. These books often document or expand a genre of publications—see highlights from 2009, In Numbers or Japanese Photobooks of the 1960s and 1970s. They are bibliophilic contrivances and often explore a particular artist’s body of work, catalog a collection of books, and/or trace a phenomenon within certain genres. Perhaps it is easiest to discuss aspects of this definition of “book about books” by taking a quick browse through three great examples published in 2010.” (MOMA).

03. Highsnobiety TV – 10.Deep x Money Making Jam Boys – Episode 1 (Above)

“After releasing the trailer last week, timing could not be better for the launch of the first episode of our Highsnobiety TV series on the Money Making Jam Boys. Grammy Award winning artist Black Thought, gives a breakdown of the Money Making Jam Boys.” (HS).

grey book 01 curatedmag “neü sex” by Sasha Grey Book

Curated reports on Sasha Grey’s upcoming book. “Sasha Grey is well known for her work in front of the camera. Her move in the last year to more mainstream roles (Entourage, etc) opens the door for the actresses first photography monograph. Grey’s interest in art blossomed when she entered the porn industry, believing it important to document her journey. The result is a series of self portraits, making up the contents of neü sex “neü sex” by Sasha Grey Book capturing personal images that share Grey’s more intimate (read personal) moments on set. At times, the camera is handled by Grey’s fiance, Ian, a professional photographer who manages to keep to the same tone as Grey’s own work making the full collection delightfully cohesive.”

Black Cat Bone NY Jacket

14 February 2011, 23.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Black Cat Bone NY Jacket

Hysteric Glamour shows us their 2011 Spring/Summer Collection. One piece that really depicts the “rock and roll” outlook from the  company is the “Black Cat Bone NY” jacket. The jacket has a 60’s inspired black cat logo embroidered on the back with a chest badge and left arm patch detail. The jacket is made of 100% silk and comes in a slim cut. There’s something about a work jacket being made in silk that conveys a sense of superior look. It almost pays homage to the classic souvenir jacket. Available at HystericGlamour.
