A very impressive leather piece from Rick Owens is the “Scuba jacket.” He’s done this jacket a couple seasons now but this time he has actually blistered the leather on the jacket. This season he uses a somewhat blue colored lambskin. The vintage motorcycle inspired zipper placement and long collar make for a great spring jacket. Another solid piece from Rick Owens. Backpacks have been with us for centuries. With school and everyday life,  most needed one at some point. Baggu is a company that specializes in bags that are really inexpensive and are all made of recycled materials. Their backpack can be used “for books, a laptop, they gym or [as] an overnight bag,” and offers a magnetic snap, buckle closure, interior pocket and adjustable shoulder straps. They used a “16oz recycled cotton canvas” which makes for a pretty sturdy bag. They’re available at Baggu.

00o00 turns us onto this John Lobb video ‘190 steps’. As you might guess from the title, it’s a short video that showcases a couple of the 190 steps needed to complete a John Lobb shoe.

After showing us his garage, Ralph Lauren will be taking his car collection on the road – to France to be specific. Luxist reports that he’ll be taking 60 cars from his collection to show them off in Paris this spring.

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting piece highlighting the current trend for custom made clothing. Using examples from a Rome based tailor and Savile Row, they highlight how tailors businesses have held up even during the recession and continue to rise.

“Until the 1950s, high-end clothes were mainly designed and manufactured on a made-to-measure basis with garments created by tailors for specific clients and then hand-sewn by seamstresses. The mid 1960s, however, ushered in ready-to-wear collections, which were often machine-made and therefore less expensive. Ready-to-wear clothes remain the bulk of the fashion industry—even for exclusive designer brands such as Christian Dior or Valentino.

Small European tailors and artisans say they offer something that high-end brands can’t compete with: time and attention. A bespoke suit for both men and women needs at least 40 hours of work and has to be fitted at list three or four times.”

It goes without saying that techno and the work of Jeff Mills has been highly influential in the lives of some of our writers (me mostly). Last night, Mills and his Axis label announced their latest collaboration in the form of five sunglasses with Chicago’s Gamma Player. Not much is known outside of these looks. More than just techno…. Look for them to drop this March.
