Illuminated Squirrel Light

25 March 2011, 19.00 | Posted in Design | No comments »

Selectism - squirrel-light-01

On other weeks this would be our piece of the week. Unfortunately a light, albeit one in the shape of the squirrel, will always pale in comparison to cars and boats in the shapes of shoes. It’s a shame really. Squirrel lights should be an essential in every one’s household – although the price tag on this shows us why this isn’t the case. (Pedlars)

DS Dundee Herringbone Trousers

Sharpen up Nas. There’s no reason for that sentence, we just felt it’d be a nice name for a site in these rap and style obsessed days we’re living in. The way it’s looking, we’ll see a clothing related remake of ‘New York State of Mind’ before the years out. We won’t listen to it – our ears deserve better – we’re just saying it’ll be out there. We’d imagine the person who made the song would be wearing these trousers, they’re called dapper for a reason. Because it rhymes with rapper. (DS Dundee)

GANT by Michael Bastian Sunglasses

More options in the eyewear game. Here are some looks from the GANT Michael Bastian works. These photos show you how the models chilling on the front stoop do it. We’d like to see you rocking your shades in more dangerous locales. I threw in some looks from the women’s side as well. Beauty for all.

The new agnes b store is a “galerie boutique” on Howard Street in New York City brings together (for the  first time) Agnès love of contemporary art as well as her retail. She has long been a strong supporter of the arts. Agnès also runs  ”Galerie du Jour Paris and has been a supporter and collector of artists for many decades.  The 3000 foot flagship store [on Howard Street] is located on in a beautifully restored 1863 landmark building and Agnès design concept blends historic architectural details with a fresh contemporary aesthetic.”

To celebrate her new flagship, “Agnès has asked many friends and artists to create a design for her ongoing Artist T-Shirt line.
Harmony Korine, Ryan McGinness, Jose Parla, Bast, Ryan McGinley and Jonas Mekas are just some of the artists who have contributed.”

RIC Basic Crew and V-Neck T-Shirts

RIC Basic Crew and V-Neck T-Shirts

Nothing beats a perfect white tee. Many minimalists in the industry will attest to this. Some will even tell you that’s all they wear, but that is difficult to believe. Nevertheless, for some, including me, the white t-shirt is about the only thing I care about when sitting in my office. Recently, we received a few review packs from RIC (Rich in Clothing) boasting about their new cut and fit for their basics. Make a claim like that and you better be on point. Good thing they were. Their basic crew and v-neck shirts (available in white, grey, or black) are well cut and made in Los Angeles. For a guy like me (standing height of 173cm), they’re a damn fine fit.  Their photos do not do these garments justice, nor does their branding. You’ll have to take my word for it.

Chaise by Thos. Moser

Selectism - moser-01-curatedmag

Curated turns us onto this:

“This surprisingly sleek chaise by Thos. Moser was designed in 2000, a collaborative project between Tom and David Moser. The duo drew inspiration from mid-century European architecture but add a warm, New England feel by employing cherry wood rather than metal piping. The chair reclines fully, with a fluid pivot influenced by Italian aluminum lawn chairs.”

Atelier La Durance Belt

Selectism - atelier-ladurance-belt-01

We’d heard that Atelier was put on hold a year or so ago, but it looks like they’re back now. It only makes sense that they’d come back strong with the same classics they were known for  – namely, good belts. It’s really a pick your poison scenario with ALD but we’re fans of the natural leather version. (Tenue De Nimes)

Lacoste Knitted Bomber Jacket

Selectism - lacoste-knitted-bomber-jacket-01

How do you feel about Lacoste? We ask because your preconceptions will probably affect how much you like this jacket. We think it looks great, but if one too many style deficient folks have worn the brand in your neck of the woods, you’re likely to be reflexively put off. If not, then go ahead and do your wardrobe a favour. (Asos)

Adam Kimmel Denim Trainers

Selectism - adam-kimmel-denim-trainers-01

Coming with more (los) heat from Adam Kimmel. We’re all about a good pair of chukka’s, mainly because we like reciting Clipse lyrics. We’re starting to feel like we’re letting the side down with all these casual footwear choices – we are supposed to be the sharp looking brother to High Snob after all. Ah well, can’t be sharp everyday. (Nitty Gritty)

Double dose of that Curated goodness today:

“Hailing from Ireland, Claire-Anne O’Brien is a recent graduate of the Royal College of Art. Her work finds intersection in textiles and furniture, and in the case of the Knit Stools strikes the balance with undeniable charm.”
