US Men’s National Team Red Kit by Nike

selectism - US Men's National Team Red Kit by Nike

This Saturday (March 26, 2011), the United States Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT) host Argentina in a friendly match at the Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey.

To mark the occasion the UMNT will unveil their new third color kit – a vivid red shirt with an obsidian blue sash across the front – regarded by the team as “the people’s jersey.” Nike partnered with US Soccer and invited fans to make their own mark on the shirt. A twitter based campaign entitled “Red All Over” gave participants the chance to write a new motto for the team to be embroidered on one of the shirt sleeves.  As with all USMNT jerseys, the third shirt features symbolic graphics including a coiled rattlesnake on the inside of the neck and the message “DTOM” (Don’t Tread On Me) above the heart on the inside of the U.S. Soccer Federation crest.

The new kit echoes past USMNT designs, working to instill the team’s history and tradition in the Nike’s most environmentally-friendly technically advanced uniform.

Available now from Nike.

The shirt is shown in dynamic motion on Mr. Dempsey above. Details of the USMNT Red Kit are available after the jump.

01. Tattoos And The American Sailor: Exhibit At Mystic Seaport Opens

“A new exhibit at Mystic Seaport — “Skin & Bones: Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor” — chronicles the history of indelible body art among the nation’s working and fighting seamen. Displays include paintings, photographs and artifacts, including evil-looking needles that early tattooists used on their shipmates. There’s also an interactive Tattoo-A-Tron, which uses video projection to etch an ephemeral and painless image on a patron’s hand or forearm.” (Courant).

04. ‘Inspiration And Impact’: The Legacy Of The Hartford Steam Boiler Collection (Above)

“It is rare when the acquisition of a single collection of artworks transforms an established museum’s outlook and mission. Yet that, fortuitously, is what has happened at the beloved Florence Griswold Museum, long heralded as the home of American Impressionism.” (Bee).

The “Designed By” Urban Outfitters initiative is an on-going collection of collaborative works for the retail shops. Left Field Chino Collection for Spring 2011

Left Field produces some of the strongest chinos on the market. What makes them tops is their twills. For Spring 2011, they deliver four styles: “Japanese khaki twill (made from the same heavy-duty cotton twill used to make Japanese military garments), one organic olive twill, and two enzyme-washed organic cotton canvas models. Details are the same four all four pairs, and they include a Corozo button fly, front coin pocket, on-seam side pockets, buttoned back pockets.” We love the chambray pocket bags – made from Japanese fabrics of course. Made in Los Angeles.

Selectism - ellesse-robert-mcginnis-01

Don’t call it a comeback, but ellesse are making moves in silence (and violence, so we’ve heard) this season. One of the most notable of these moves has been to get legendary illustrator Robert McGinnis (who made the posters for Breakfast at Tiffany’s and several Bond films among others) to paint a campaign of theirs.

Take a leap to see the full portrait shot and see a campaign video.
