The Art of The March

Selectism - art-of-the-march-01

Creative Review have a great roundup of the cleverest signs they spotted at the recent march in London last weekend. Despite the endless smashing of things you’ve seen elsewhere (we hear some crockery was tossed around at Fortnum & Mason) there was a lot of peaceful protesting. We’ve rounded up a couple of our favourite ones after the leap, but check CR for the full roundup.

Behind The Scenes of Ralph Lauren ‘Big Pony’ Fragrance Photoshoot

Selectism - fashion-toast-ralph-lauren

We’re not sure this classes as menswear news per se, but anything Ralphie related gets a pass. This time they’ve teamed with Rumi Neely from Fashion Toast to create an advert with her and her boyfriend, of which they posted up the behind the scenes today. We wonder if it will be as good as Khloe and Lamar’s ‘Unbreakable’ advert? Of course not. You can’t top genius. (Fashion toast)

Curated turns us onto this:

“Designed for Mattiazi, the Osso chair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec will make it’s official debut in Milan next month. The chair is part of a larger series, which explores natural materials and new high tech solar powered digital equipment. The chair is made up of four parts, each exactly the same.”

Oliver Spencer ‘Conduit’ Cardigan

30 March 2011, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - oliver-spencer-cream-cardigan-01Don’t ask us why but this cardigan reminds us of what Hugh Hefner would wear on a date in 1960’s. Like we said, don’t ask why, it just does. Or something we’d see in a ‘cool’ black and white picture of a dead actor. It’ll also double up nicely as a knit jacket on a slightly warmer day. Want some advice? accessorise with a pipe and you’ll be good to go. (Oliver Spencer)

Stitch and Sew Backpack

Selectism - stitch-sew-backpack-01

We’ve been overdosing on backpack recommendations lately. We would apologise, but we’re not sorry about it. This one’s from Stitch and Sew and it ticks our boxes. Namely it looks good and it’s made in Japan. Win and win. (CHCM)

Take a leap to see a couple more shots.

Kris Van Assche Embossed Denim Sneaker

Who likes high tops? Designer brands do, obviously. They’ve been all about them for a good while and the high top train isn’t slowing down anytime soon. We had no idea you could emboss denim before we say these but, as the old saying goes, you learn something new everyday. We also learned that embossed denim sounds more spectacular than it looks. Jil Sander Floral Print Shirt

Selectism - jil-sander-floral-print-shirt-01

Looking to dip your toes into the whole floral thing? Look away now. This is essentially the going H.A.M version of a floral print, we can dig it, but we’re not complaining if any floral print toe-dippers aren’t ready for it. It’s strictly for the Tony Montana’s of this world. (Oki-Ni)

02. The Kill Team

“Early last year, after six hard months soldiering in Afghanistan, a group of American infantrymen reached a momentous decision: It was finally time to kill a hag.” (Rolling Stone)

03. Ready or not, Roy Jones carries on

“The news of Roy Jones’ return to the ring to face top-10 cruiserweight contender Denis Lebedev on May 21 in Moscow was not exactly greeted with wild cheers from fight fans who love Jones and don’t want to see the 42-year-old faded great get hurt.” (ESPN)

04. Sasha Grey Book Signing

“Sasha Grey’s first words to the audience were, Thanks for coming. Wonder how many times she’s said that in her career.

Last night we had the pleasure of hearing Sasha Grey be interviewed about Neü Sex, her monograph that hits shelves today. Well, it was mostly pleasurable, other than the fact that the dimly lit bookstore was a million degrees and packed with sweaty, horny dudes. Sasha was 45 minutes late, an offense most of the crowd forgot when she climbed up on stage in nude heels and a sheer, black, long sleeved dress.” (Hearty)

“What happens to an impoverished developing nation town when you flood it with 20,000 bicycles? You lift three times that number of people out of poverty. Pedals for Progress and founder David Schweidenback have been shipping used American bicycles to Rivas, Nicaragua for the last two decades and the transformation has been incredible.” The Bicycle City.
