Pica-Post #1

Pica-Post is the new in-house, twice-yearly, publication from the Oi Polloi shop in Manchester, England. Strictly set to a run of 1000 copies, the magazine is “best described as an extension of their popular online feature, Deck-Out… Illustration is a key element, with contributions from previous OiPolloi collaborator Ben Lamb. Additional insight into the products featured comes from essays entitled ‘Bufallo Bill & The Salford Sioux’, ‘Even God Wears Khaki’ and ‘The Thrill of A Swastika SurfBoard’.” (Note: A cookie goes to however spots the Selectism mention in the last article) The full issue is available for free in digital form.

Yigal Azrouel "Catus" Pants

A self taught designer, Yigal Azrouel, has stunned the masses with his critical menswear designs. Debuting his menswear collection in 2007, he’s gained worldwide notoriety by introducing a modern aesthetic and draping to all his pieces. The “Pants in Cactus” illustrates these details thoroughly in the design. The shell is 100% cotton and offers 100% lamb leather details throughout. Crafted in the United States, Azrouel uses a hook and bar closure with a button fly. The pant also offers side slit pockets as well as welt back pocket. (fwdfwd)

Curated turns us onto this:

Bromleys Knitted Tie

Selectism - bromleys-knitted-tie-01

The knitted tie hunt continues on with this one we found. Silk ties are great and all but there’s something a little too spiffy about them for us to wear on a daily basis. And if you like being spiffy, cool, but that’s not what we’re into. This knitted tie is from Bromleys, it’s made in the UK and it looks gosh darn good. What more can we say? (Classic Wardrobe)

Tim Soar Short Sleeve Jumper

Selectism - tim-soar-short-sleeve-sweatshirt-01

It’s officially warming up, so it’s time to lighten up on the layers. The short sleeved jumper is a bit of a conundrum for some folks, as we all know most guys struggle with shapes and cuts they’re not used to moreso than colours and patterns. Our advice (probably the first bit of honest advice in eons)? Just wear it over a t-shirt and you’ll be fine. (Start)

Baartmans and Siegel Powder Print Shirt

Selectism - baartmans-siegel-powder-shirt-01

It’s nice to see places like Harrods stocking young designers like Baartmans and Siegel, especially when they make clothes that fit perfectly into their aesthetic. While this is still a, for lack of a better word, directional shirt we see no reason why the more classic guy couldn’t wear it. And the streetwear leaning folk should take heed that it’s a club collar away from looking like something Wood Wood do. (Harrods)

Before anyone starts, we know this book is a long way from being new – we’re just blogging it up because we just got it and we’re enjoying it so far. The autobiography of Danny Sugerman, it was first published back in 1989. If you haven’t heard of Sugerman he was the manager of The Doors and Iggy Pop who lived so hard he contracted two types of hepatitis, had a $500 a day heroin habit, a diseased heart and was given a week to live at the age of 21. So it’s fair to say that this is worth a read. Available from Amazon Wonderland Avenue: Tales of Excess and Glamour.
