Bobby from Boston Shop

Bobby from Boston Shop

OMS gives us a look into what many consider a the most influential of vintage men’s shops, right in Boston, MA. Bobby from Boston has been a destination for longer than most. Much longer. We’ve hear rumors that the RRL movement itself was inspired by this very shop. I’m sure there are others. “Walking into Bobby from Boston is like stepping into a time portal. Bobby’s is considered among the best of the best when talking about vintage clothing. If you’re interested in clothes, regardless of your own personal style (prep, traditional, hipster, etc) it’s hard not to get inspired by this store. Bobby is very well known and respected in the industry. His influence is more prevalent than you may even know…”

Selectism - volture-magazine-01

Magspreads, ‘the world’s #1 magazine design website’ (how do people quantify such claims?) has a look at Volture. We’ve not seen much of this magazine but we do like the look of it.

Take a leap to see spreads of the magazine.

hedi slimane anthology of a decade book 1 Hedi Slimane: Anthology of a Decade Book

Publisher JRP Ringier published a new anthology of Hedi Slimane’s photography.  From the publisher: “As Hedi Slimane: Anthology of a Decade Hedi Slimane: Anthology of a Decade Book reveals, Slimane’s photographs, which traverse the music scene, the New York art scene, street fashion and haute couture, are as fresh as his groundbreaking work in fashion. Drawing on photographs taken throughout the past decade, this volume records Slimane’s early years in the fashion industry, before, during and after his tenures at Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior. It was during this decade that Slimane brought to men’s fashion an androgynous, rock verve that influenced couture worldwide. This selection of 175 color photographs lays bare Slimane’s inspirations for this look…”  Coming April 30, 2011.

Makio Hasuike Zip-Around Briefcase

Selectism - zip-around-briefcase-01

We’ve seen a couple of flat pack bags about town before, but not a flat pack briefcase, until now obviously. Designed by Makio Hasuike, it unzips fully around the perimeter, turning it into a flatpack design. We’re not sure why you’d need a flatpack briefcase – it’s not like they take up that much space – but if you’re a stickler for putting things away neatly, this is the bag for you. (MH Way)

See the flatpack for yourself after the leap.

Adam Kimmel for Supreme Suits

Adam Kimmel for Supreme Suits

Highsnob talks a bit on the latest co-brand from the New York’s Supreme line. They work with designer Adam Kimmel for their latest works. “This comes somewhat unexpected – Supreme announced their new collaboration with Adam Kimmel for Spring/Summer 2011. This is exactly the kind of collaboration that send the New York brand apart from the rest of the pack.”  I’m not sure we agree with it setting either brand from the “rest of the pack” to be honest. Seeing as both brands have worked with various brands – Supreme with Thom Browne of recent, and Kimmel with both Carhartt and Mismo (for their Autumn 2011 bag offerings), they were already there. This is simply another engagement that brings two great brands together, rather than being ground breaking.

Band of Outsiders named as Pitti Guest Designer

Selectism - band-of-outsiders-fw11-00

In a move sure to delight fans and anger detractors, Band of Outsiders have been named as the next guest designer for Pitti 80. Given the film-based background of the brand (and all the actors they have involved) we’re interested to see what they’ll do. They’ll be doing it alongside Rodarte, who’ve taken the menswear world by storm one faux moth hole at a time. (Fashionista)

The Independent | “Rick Owens: The prince of dark design”

The Independent | "Rick Owens: The prince of dark design"

The Independent delivers a fairly personal article with designer, Rick Owens. While it goes further into his personal life further in, I’m more taken with the discussion of his life-size wax sculptures. “Rick Owens is face to face with a life-size wax sculpture of himself, staring out of shredded wadding and packed in a wooden crate in a corner of his London store. It’s an oddly unnerving sight, as the cult Californian designer is first to admit: brown-eyed and eerily close in appearance to the man himself, the look of it is made no less disturbing by the fact that it is severed from the waist down – it has no legs… Owens objects for less obvious reasons: ‘It’s not nearly disgusting enough..’
