Alden for BEAMS+ Penny Loafers

Call your proxy friends: BEAMS+ has issued a small collection of shoes with New England’s own Alden company. Here, we highlight two paris of penny loafers – one in ivory, the other in black. The ivory pair are the more casual of the two. Fear not wearing them with your short pants this Summer.

Sacai Men’s Autumn/Winter 2011 Looks

The Nordic look in the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection from Sacai will be a popular one. I, for one, am not convinced on the short pants for the Autumn season but maybe my weather in New England is slightly different than the streets of Tokyo. There is a strong variety of textiles in use here. Be sure to check out the gallery. (h)

Mr Porter | In The Ring

Selectism - mr-porter-in-ring-01

The gents at Mr Porter sent over ‘in the ring’, their newest editorial. This one showcases athletic gear, using two amateur boxers as models. It goes without saying (well, it almost does because we are saying it) that the gear is a couple of steps above the shorts you wear in school and an old Smith t-shirt – the current SL workout uniform of choice. Don’t judge us, we can’t be fashion all the time.

Take a leap to see more shots.

Curated turns us onto this:

Stacey Lee Webber is a Philadelphia based artist who finds unique ways to recontextualize objects from blue collar neighborhoods.  Webber’s sculptures embody a refined aesthetic and challenge the conventional possibilities of everyday materials.  Through her investigations, Webber’ celebrates working class families which make up the heart of American culture.”

Selectism - diverso-italiano-holdall-01

We can’t get enough holdalls in our lives. It’s gotten so bad we’ve resorted to placing them on walls like they were pieces of art. And when that stopped working we trying using them all at once, just to show that they were all useful. And now we’re looking at this bag. Don’t consider this a short article – it’s a plea for help. Creep by Hiroshi Awai Striped Shirt

Selectism - creep-striped-shirt-01

We often hear about how hard it is to wear a granddad collar. Baloney – like most things, it’s as hard as you want to make it. We don’t see why it’d be difficult to wear this with any sort of dressed down outfit, it’s just clothing people. To put this into basketball terms, you should stop acting like all Jared Jeffries and start being more like Ray Allen from the 3pt line. (ASOS)

Sandqvist ‘Stig’ Backpack

Selectism - sandqvist-stig-backpack-01

So we’re gonna try and get through this post without using the cliche ‘pop of colour’. You could say we’ve already used it but we’re gonna stick our fingers in our ears and ignore your so-called logic. Instead we’ll look at this pale red backpack which would be a great pop…we said we weren’t going to say that, so we won’t. But if would look great with a muted outfit. (Grandpa)

Folk Linear Print T-Shirt

Selectism - folk-linear-print-tee-01

More Tees? Yeah, more tees. We’re into our plain tees (backbone of a wardrobe, etc etc) but a subtle pattern is still worth a go. This Folk t-shirt is just patterned enough for our tastes, ensuring you can wear it without looking like you’ve stepped off the set of a 70’s gangster film. (Folk)

selectism - around the web

01. America’s Football Factory

“”Where can we go drink our faces off?” he asks the receptionist. She draws us a map. While drinking a couple of beers in the hotel, Remm shows me the tattoo on his chest. It’s an outline of a shirt pocket with a pen in it. We get a taxi to town and drink enormous cans of Bud Light in grim bars while watching the Phillies get knocked out of the play-offs. Remm negotiates a taxi – he shouts at a cab driver, slams a door, shouts at a cab driver, slams a door – and we go back to the hotel. I’m so tired I’m almost asleep in the lift. Naioti and Remm go and find burgers. (They end up eating five each.)” (GQ).

02. Ithaca Beer Co. brews Phish-inspired beer, Stash IPA (Above).

“Ithaca Beer Co. is chill to announce plans for another one-off beer coming out early June called Stash. No coincidence, the aptly named Stash, is an homage to one of Ithaca Beer’s favorite jam bands, Phish. Also, no coincidence, Phish is coming to Watkins Glen International (practically our backyard) July 1-3, 2011. While you won’t likely see our homegrown tribute ale on the raceway grounds because it’s not The Official beer of Super Ball 9, you will find it on draft at a slew of craft accounts around the Finger Lakes leading up to the festival.” (Beer News).

03. Sasha Grey on Leaving Porn and Approaching Everything as Art

“Actress, musician, and photographer Sasha Grey certainly didn’t take the traditional path to fame. Best known as one of the adult-film industry’s biggest banner names, Grey made a huge splash in the porn world almost immediately after filming her first scenes at the age of 18. Five years later, Grey has officially stepped away from the X-rated side of on-camera appearances, focusing instead on traditional acting, modeling, experimental music (with her band aTelecine), and photography. Along the way, she starred in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience, picked up a recurring role on Entourage, posed for Terry Richardson, featured in videos by the Smashing Pumpkins and the Roots, and modeled for American Apparel.” (Flavorwire).

04. The 10 Biggest Upsets In Heavyweight Title Fight History

“Though the betting odds, in the U.K at least, are quite close regarding the upcoming Wladimir Klitschko Vs. David Haye heavyweight unification battle, it will be seen by many fans as a big upset if WBA champ Haye wins and adds the Ring magazine, IBO, IBF and WBO belts to his collection; it will be seen as an even bigger upset if “The Hayemaker” wins by brutal, quick KO (as he says he will).” (East Side).
