The “Billy Reid at J. Crew” capsule collection is now available online. It’s a small offering with solid pieces for any wardrobe. The Blythewood trousers and jackets will appeal to some but the shirting and cardigans are where we like it. The Beaudreaux linen shirts take a bit of the workwear feel and refine it a bit. Though we’re partial to Ronnie Fieg’s leather versions, there is no denying that John Varvatos’ talk on the Converse Star Player EV has appeal. In heavy twill, the Varvatos versions come in navy, white, gray, and red. The traditional Chevron logo appears in contrasting color and the rubber outsole and toe units are given a vintage look. Consider the Converse by John Varvatos Star Player just another great Spring option from a sneaker brand with undeniable heritage.

Sure, yachts are basically out of reach for all of us reading this site. However, as a vehicle for new design and aspirational luxury good, items like the Victoire V37 and V42 are simply remarkable. Both have been redesigned by Powerhouse Company, a Dutch firm specializing in interiors and space, with aid of master boat builder Dick Koopmans.

Victoire was founded in 1961 and stands as one of the most storied companies in personal yacht development.

We’re always amused by concepts like this where the basic train of thought is ‘men like drinking, men like shoes – why not mix the two?’ Which is just what Grenson have done with their latest pop up, a brogue bar at London’s Selfridges. There’s even a happy hour where you’ll get a free pair of shoe trees with every purchase. It’s on till the 12th of May, so if you’re in town it’s worth a visit.

“Humans and animals are the central themes of ceramicist Kate MacDowell’s sculpture. Sometimes the two intertwine. Sometimes the sculptures form larger narratives – for instance she’s produced an amazing series that relates to bird hunting. And, at other times, the sculpture simply causes a bit of mental unrest.”

If you’ve followed this site for any amount of time, you’ll know about our love for patchwork. Yeah, we still like it – no matter how many ‘it looks like grandma’s old quilt’ jokes we get thrown our way. This one’s from the Band and, as far as patchwork goes, it’s pretty tame – which is a good thing. (Aloha Rag)

Polo shirts are one of those pieces that never goes away, but has some image issues. Whether it’s being associated with chavs, hooligans or frat boys, it’s never the piece itself that looks  bad, just the folks wearing it (unlike, say Ed Hardy, which couldn’t be made to look good in any circumstance).  Most folks can only take plaid in small doses now, so having it on the collar is a smart choice.
