Duffy London Woodsman Axe Coffee Table

The use of woodsman icons has been extensive during the heritage m-vement of the past three or more years. Chris Duffy takes it one step further with this axe-legged coffee table. Don’t slam your hand down too close to the corners or things could get ugly. Kidding of course. This one looks safe to the touch. From Duffy London. (sm)

Our friends at Tenue de Nimes visited with Nigel Cabourn to discuss the current season’s collection. “He wanted to share a sneak preview with us of his 2011 Spring Summer collection. He told us about his search for old designs, materials and fabrics. He shared some of his most bizarre finds with us and told us about his quest to put these finds in a contemporary, Nigel Cabourn perspective. This search for a perspective led him to this season’s theme: The Submarine.”

Portland General Store Shaving Brushes

Portland General Store Shaving Brushes

Still know a guy working his shave with the foam? Truthfully, they work in a pinch but tend to lack the moisturizing you’ll need after running that blade on your skin. We recommend moving to a cream and a shaving brush if time allows. Portland General Store offers three brush varieties that work for most. They’re all made in England and feature badger fur, which is choice amongst the serious fan of lathering. The travel size should do well for most.

Kolor Autumn/Winter 2011 Looks

Yes, things are moving forward. Slowly but surely the attraction of modern menswear is returning to a space that moves the time table forward a few decades. Kolor, for instance, drops more airy looks onto their shag-hair model. What we find are trousers with generous fits and tops that may include your favorite shade of green.(h)

StndAir Begins Service from NYC to East Coast Destinations

The East River is about to get serious. The Standard Hotel with the help of Shoreline Aviation are set to launch StndAIR a new “airline” servicing East Coast destinations within a 300 mile radius of N.Y.C. (Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, Hudson Valley), as well as other flights during peak weekends between N.Y.C. and East Hampton.

The StndAir Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian aircraft seats eight passengers and is available for use by the public and The Standard New York and Sunset Beach hotel guests as park of stay packages. Flights depart from 23 Street and FDR on the East River running from May 26October 10, 2011.

Highly impressive. More details on how to book shortly.

Gaziano & Girling ‘Deco’

Selectism - gaziano-girling-deco-01

Permanent Style has a great piece on Gaziano & Girling’s latest line, Deco. In a piece Simon Crompton wrote for The Rake, he talks about G&G’s importance in the world of bespoke shoemaking, their new line and their history. The whole thing’s worth reading but here’s a quote to whet your appetite.

“You have to feel it’s a good time for shoes. In the past year we have seen the launch of Anthony Cleverley, Top Drawer from Edward Green and now Deco from Gaziano & Girling. All superlative ranges of shoes, sold on their craft and priced over £1000. The market is in accord: men now value the handcraft that goes into a pair of English shoes so much that they are willing to pay twice the previous standard for high-end footwear.”

Appetite sufficiently whetted? Of course it was. Go read the rest here.

Curated lets us know turns us on to this:

“Jasper Morrison’s latest design for Vitra, the “Hal” chair, was conceived to meet the needs of any function. Stick it in the hall, round the dining table, or even whip outside. The seat shell is molded plastic which ensures comfort and contrasts quite nicely with the simple wooden legs. Varying colors make the chair even more versatile.”

Monitaly Plaid Field Jacket

Selectism - monitaly-plaid-field-jacket-01

While Monitaly’s lookbooks can be hit or miss, we’re still fans of their products. Take  this field jacket for instance. It’s unlined and hooded, so perfect for spring showers and you can easily take it into winter if you thermal up enough. The plaid pattern is nice too – we only advise wearing plaid jackets over floral print shirts these days – spread pattern love, it’s the Brooklyn way. (Coggles)
