Selectism - head-porter-plus-oxford-shirt-01

Still like oxford shirts? Of course, it’s only been a short while since they ‘left’ the trendosphere. We put left in quotes because – like anything you bought a year or so ago – everyone’s still wearing them, it’s just become unpopular to talk about them as much. So, if you’re still on the lookout for a good oxford, put this Head Porter Plus version into consideration. (Firmanent)

selectism - Manchester United Home Kit by Nike

Premier League champions Manchester United will be nattily dressed entering the 2011/2012 campaign.

Utilizing Nike’s groundbreaking recycled polyester (the shirt is 13% lighter than previous tops), the shirt’s design references the club’s iconic bar scarf, which appeared on the kits of legendary 1977 and 1985 FA Cup winning sides. The shirt is finished with a crew neck collar, well crafted and in keeping with team traditions.

Available from shops beginning on June 3, 2011.

More looks at Man U’s home kit for the 2011/2012 season after the leap.

Ralph Lauren Linen Shirt

Selectism - polo-ralph-lauren-linen-shirt-01

We’re gonna come right out and say it, we only kinda like this shirt. We like the tie dye effect and the fact it’s linen. If we were being picky, we’d say that we find the buttons a little jarring and the two chest pockets. That’s if we were being picky. (Liberty)

Selectism - common-projects-01

Tres Bien have a nice little interview with Common Project’s Peter Poopat up on their site. Tracing the company’s beginnings, Peter’s publishing background and where the company are going to next, it’s an informative piece. There’s an especially interesting quote about Common Projects first ever product images:

“The first pictures of Common Projects were taken in my living room with my crappy camera. They were my shoes.” But something about those photos resonated with people. Later, in Paris, a man approached Peter and told him he’d had that very image blown up to hang as art in his apartment.”

You can read the entire piece here.

02. Spread no more: Denmark bans Marmite

“According to the advert, you either love it or hate it. As far as Marmite goes, it seems that Denmark hates the stuff. That at least is the conclusion that many foreigners have drawn following a ban on the sticky brown yeast extract.” (Guardian)

03.Robots develop language to ‘talk’ to each other

“Robots are developing their own language to help them navigate and improve their intellectual ability. The Lingodroid research project lets robots generate random sounds for the places they visit in both simulations and a real office. The “words” are shared and the robots play games to establish which sound represents which location.” (BBC)

04. Top 10 Hip-Hop Soundtracks

“Movie soundtracks aren’t what they used to be. And I’m not saying that as an old head lamenting on the “good ole days.” The ‘90s and early 2000s saw a lot of hip-hop’s major figures contributing new and unreleased songs to movie soundtracks making for a superb compilation with a thematic feel. Imagine if Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, The Roots, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli or any other top notch hip-hop artists recorded new songs for a soundtrack that isn’t on any of their albums. It would be an epic collection, to say the least.” (Street Census)

Under the name, ‘Into The Light : Survival 2012,’ Maharishi brings “ high tech webbing and other technical and utilitarian details reinterpreted for the 2012 Survival Forces…” The details speak for themselves: Swiss riri waterproof zips, “densely woven naturally waterproof organic cotton ETA, Schoeller cloth with anti-abrasion Kevlar fibres..” it would seem that no shortcuts were taken in production.

Uni-Ball Japan Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil

24 May 2011, 21.30 | Posted in Accessories | 2 comments »

Uni-Ball Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil

Pencils of all varieties receive great love from Selectism. While some prefer new-school notation through digital devices, most of our staff remain attached to the classic notepad and pencil; taking notes the old fashion way. Interestingly, the pencil market continues to innovate, specifically in the world of mechanical pencils.

Uni-ball’s Japanese arm is at the forefront of this market with their Kuru Toga mechanical pencil. It features an auto lead rotating mechanism that keeps the lead from fall flat on one side. By rotating the lead continuously, the impression on the paper stays uniform. What is absolutely amazing about this tech is the idea that at .5mm (shown above) or even .3mm, someone will actually notice a fluctuation in line thickness. That’s exactly why the Kuru Toga was developed. Serious business. Jetpens has them.
