The Empty Chair

Selectism - baas-01-curatedmag

Curated turns us onto this:

“Maarten Baas designed the “empty chair” at the request of Amnesty International in support of their campaign against the suppression of activists and to honor the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Liu Xiaobo. The chinese activist was unable to accept the prize in person due to imprisonment.

Baas’ chair, standing five meters, was unveiled last weekend for the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International in Amsterdam.”

First Look | Passarella Death Squad Autumn/Winter 2011

Selectism - passarella-death-squad-autumn-2011-01

Passarella Death Squad have just sent over some looks from their autumn/winter 2011 collection. Sadly, they haven’t moved into neapolitan tailoring but they do make some great t-shirts and varsity jackets. Taking inspiration from old-school video games, it’s the sort of thing we can get behind. And we don’t mean Tekken 2 either, youngsters – we’re talking proper 8-bit inspiration here. There’s also been an update to our favourite piece of the collection, the stadium jacket.

Hop, skip and jump over some mushrooms to see more.

COS Autumn/Winter 2011 Shoe Preview

Selectism - cos-autumn-2011-shoes-01

Here’s a short and sweet preview of COS’s shoes for autumn. When we say short, we mean it, there’s only one more shoe after the leap. At least you’ll have longer to marvel at the handsomeness of the shoe (and, if you’re in the states, marvel at the fact that COS hasn’t made it across the pond yet).

Italian Style: On the trail of the silver fox

Selectism - italian-style-01

The Telegraph has an interesting piece on the style of Italian men and why their style beats the British hands down. We’re inclined to disagree on impulse, but that’s because we’re contrarians like that. It’s more of a personal story than a in-depth review of Italian style, but it’s an interesting read nonetheless. For reasons unknown to us, it’s also illustrated with a picture of George Clooney, who’d we’d say is more handsome than stylish. Look at the outfit above, a black shirt and a black suit? what are you, a hitman from an ’80s movie?

Minizine, the offshoot of store Indigo & Cloth, have created this video. Entitled ‘Sunday Morning Girl’ it’s an excuse to show a pretty girl in very little clothing a nice way to showcase their clothing, similar to the way Sir. Davis did with Union LA.

Tuk Tuk Chambray Bowling Bag

Selectism - tuktuk-chambray-bowling-bag

We don’t bowl much, but we’ve always liked the accessories that come with the activity. We can do without the shoes, but the bowling bags is something we’re into. we were close to saying ‘we like their bags’ in the first sentence, but then we realised it might sound a bit wrong. (Another Store)

Libertine Libertine Quilted Shacket

Too hot for your Barbour but still want some quilting in your life? Well, this shacket should do the trick. We’re still not sure about using the word ’shacket’ in everyday life, but it’s better than saying ‘it’s kinda like a shirt and kinda like a jacket’ whenever someone asks you about it. Shacket discussion aside, we like the look of this and it’s a nice halfway house now the weather’s really heating up. (Hunting & Collecting)
