Kris Van Assche Footwear Autumn/Winter 2011

Here’s a look at the forthcoming footwear collection from Kris Van Assche’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. They continue to push forward with a take a modern men’s footwear which has been “borrowed” and “inspired” a wide range of other brands. Leathers in suede look strong. Well worth spending some time on this one. Plan your budget accordingly.

Selectism - the-rig-out-preview-07

It’s been a while since we’ve had a guest blogger, but we feel The Rig Out’s newest issue is the best time to reintroduce it. We got Glenn Kitson to give us a peek into the magazine and some shots that didn’t make it into the magazine.

Curated turns us onto this:

“Here’s a terrific concept chair from RISD design student Vivian Chiu. She’s built a chair out of a series of progressively smaller chairs… and the best part is that they are detachable making for seating furniture with great interactive quality.”

There’s always a debate when spring comes around – can you wear chukka boots with shorts? We’re leaning towards yes. Of course it depends on several scientific elements like short length, steez levels and whether you have the requisite levels of sprezzatura to pull it off. If you have all three of these, then proceed and wear these with shorts. Otherwise don’t try this or people on the internet will mock you. (Unionmade)

Lanvin Double Breasted Cardigan

While it won’t please the purists, we do quite like the whole knitted jacket thing that’s been bubbling around for a while. And it’s a double breasted joint as well, so you’ll look extra snazzy. And it’s Lanvin, so you can stunt on your friends – if they care about that sort of thing. Otherwise you’ll just have a nice cardigan. (Browns)

Ally Capellino Rocky Navy Wallet

We’ve showcased these in the tradeshow rush, but this is the first time we’ve seen them in stores. We’d like to roll out the hyperbole but what can we say? It’s a nice wallet and it’s a nice change from the zip around wallet, which can still look a bit infantile next to a folding number. And that’s all there is to it. (ideology)

You know what this coat reminds us of? Bruce Lee. Think about it – how many times have you seen Bruce wear a coat similar to this in a film. Well, we say wear it, but he’d usually take off the coat before beating some dude up. In fact, the only difference is that the coats Bruce adorned usually had toggles. And now looking like Steve McQueen isn’t cool anymore, isn’t it time you stole another dead actor’s style? (South Willard)

01. Talking With Billy Reid: Meet the menswear designer and food activist

“It’s been a banner year for Billy Reid. Last November the menswear designer won the esteemed CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, a prize that includes, among other things, $300,000 dollars towards his business. No doubt, the victory was a huge deal for the 46-year-old father of three, who runs his namesake label south of the Mason-Dixon Line in his hometown of Florence, Alabama.” (Food Republic).

02. Looking at Zines

“During the world premiere of  Who Took the Bomp? Le Tigre on Tour, which we screened in April in conjunction with Looking at Music: 3.0, we got a great response to the riot grrrl fan zines in the exhibition. These include photocopies of several zines from the outstanding Riot Grrrl Collection at NYU’s Fales Library. Flipping through them allows you to see one of the most important cultural movements of the last few decades from the gritty personal perspective of its most distinguished icons.” (Inside/Out).

03. Patkau Architects: Winnipeg Skating Shelters (Above)

“Canadian studio Paktau Architects has designed a grouping of temporary shelters to provide ice-skaters with relief from the harsh winter winds.” (Dezeen).

04. Tyler, the Creator Sells 45K in First Week

“After a week of debates, the official numbers are in and Tyler, The Creator’s first retail album, Goblin, has made it onto the top of the charts. According to the Nielsen SoundScan report, released today (May 18), the Odd Future leader met his sales projections and officially sold 45,100 CDs, which was enough to land him a spot at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.” (XXL).
