paulsmith crockett jones shoes 1 Paul Smith Shoes by Crockett & Jones

We’re hoping these are not a Japan exclusive. Paul Smith delivers a small collection of footwear as worked by Crockett and Jones. The traditional oxford is there along with a chukka inspired boot that comes in a black leather or brown suede finish. Nothing over-the-top. A classic rendition meant to be worn until they break down.

“Street Furniture” Book

"Street Furniture" Book

Killing two birds with one stone on this one. Our Berlin editors sent over a look at the standing bike “pit in” desk/table as discovered on CM. It is meant to allow for a cycling to safely “hold” their bike while enjoying a brew, usually outside a coffee shop, without the need to lock up. I argued that it would be a better idea to attach a trainer to the unit and use it as a working desk; pedaling as you type and code.

This lead to the discovery of Van Chris Uffelen’s Street Furniture Street Furniture Book book, which packed with urban examples of outdoor designs that are both smart and useful. Published in Oct. 2010 by Braun, the book features “benches, fountains, street lamps, rubbish bins, post boxes, tourist information signs, bus stops as well as public toilets are items that reoccur in various urban spaces.” It has me interested.

Available now from Amazon Street Furniture Book.

JP Morgan Palladium Card Brings Private Jets and More

Taking the exclusive “black card” market to new heights, J.P. Morgan comes forward with their “Palladium.” A new bar is set, literally, as each card is “minted out of palladium and 23k gold and laser engraved with the cardholder special details.” Some place the value on the card alone at over $1000 based on mineral pricing alone.

The J.P. Morgan Palladium VISA comes with a 57 page benefits book that covers it all. The obvious amenities at airports, concierge, insurance, roadside, priority pass are all there. The next level perks include one hour of free private jet access from Marquis Jets. The new luxury standard, seemingly. (notcot)

Quoddy for Leffot Venetian Mocassins

From the photos, these mocassins from Leffot as delivered by Quoddy look damn tough. The red sole makes them look even more rugged than normal. The leather upper looks like it’s ready for a proper Spring/Summer run just about everywhere you want to take them. Horween leather does them right. Made in Maine but available only through Leffot in N.Y.C.

NEXUSVII Aloha Hunting Cap

NEXUSVII Aloha Hunting Cap

Banger. A proper hunting cap in a fresh “aloha” floral print and ready for wear from NEXUSVII.  A mesh liner keeps it breathable and the vintage floral fabric keeps it real. Outside of the usual Asian shops, it would seem that colette may carry it. Call them and don’t fear their French. (hb)

Gentlemen’s Bet “Giant 45’s” Spring/Summer 2011 Looks

12 May 2011, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

Giant 45's Spring/Summer 2011 Looks

Giant 45’s is a smart up and coming line from New York with a focus on the classic 45 platters. Heavily inspired by the disco 12inch records (known as giant 45’s to some) which blasted some of the moment’s best sounds in original and remix form. “Much of the character attributed to these designs arose from cover art and graphic design from obscure records (as they tend to be more bizarre) in the late 70s to early 80s– predominantly of Italian and German origins.”  Think Moroder and beyond. Model: Bing Ji Ling.

Vanishing Elephant Autumn/Winter 2011

12 May 2011, 18.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - vanishing-elephant-autumn-2011-01

Before we saw this collection, we pegged Vanishing Elephant as a casually classic authentically made honestly sewn label. But, clearly, we’ve been wrong. This time, they’ve showcased a dip into the pattern pool with a paisley blazer and some floral numbers. Elsewhere there’s all the well done stuff we’ve known them for. But enough of our jibber jabber, take a look after the leap for yourselves.
