Made in Italy | The Iconic Gucci Loafer

26 May 2011, 11.00 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

Selectism - gucci-shoe-factory-01

On the bizarre off-chance that you haven’t checked ACL lately, he’s just gone to Italy to see how Gucci makes their loafers. As we have a weird fondness/hatred for Gucci loafers – thank you hip-hop lyrics for poisoning our minds – it’s interesting to see how the loafer was made. We wonder if there’s a cream – preferably of the custard variety – version they’ve been holding out on us?

Read the feature over at ACL.

Selectism - aspinal-handkerchief-01

We’re all about that handkerchief life, son. Ayo, we seen this silk handkerchief over at Aspinal of London and think it’d be a perfect compliment to any accessories wardrobe, nahmean. Son’s bored of those overpriced handkerchiefs you’re finding elsewhere, G – like we said before, only £20 or under, namsayin.

Sorry about that, we ran this post through the ghostface internet translator. (Aspinal of London)

selectism - Selectism | Around the Web

01. A Look At Kings County Distillery (Above)

“Bottles clank and the smell of hot, mashed corn permeates the air. A lazy fan whirs, complimenting the constant hum of the stills that are directly behind me. In front of me stands Colin Spoelman, moonshiner.” (Smith Ratliff).

02. The Regent Street Windows Project by RIBA

“For the past two weeks, 10 store windows in central London have been infused with designed displays as part of the Regent Street Windows Project. With a theme of ‘cities of tomorrow,’ the second annual event has invited designers and architects to overhaul shop façades at Levi’s, Ted Baker, Banana Republic and seven other locations.” (Frame).

03. Wayside Inn Antiques Show: Making Antiquing Fun Again

“Don’t look now, but the Wayside Inn Antiques Show is making antiquing fun again. Staged most recently at the historic Wayside Inn, May 13–15, this 46-dealer fair mixes business and pleasure, striking a calculated balance between affordable fare and choice specimens for dedicated collectors.” (The Bee).

04. Playing with Fire: Gas vs. Charcoal BBQ

“It’s that time. Time to gaze longingly at your backyard or terrace and envision the grill of your dreams. Is it the type of BBQ that you fill with coal and set ablaze, or does it fire up with a click of a button and the turn of a knob?” (Food Republic).

PRPS Chambray Jacket

26 May 2011, 00.01 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

PRPS Chambray Jacket

The idea of pre-distressed jeans have become something of the past. But recently, there’s been a resurgence in this distressed styling. PRPS has been creating amazing washes on all their jeans and jackets since their inception and they’ve withstood the fad of “raw” DIY jeans. The “Chambray Denim Jacket” is one example of true PRPS styling. They offer a very dark wash with detailed washed accents throughout the piece. The jacket features “a folded collar, button down front and four front pockets.” The secret internal pocket is my favorite detail on the piece. Atrium has them.

Jaguar E-Type Speedster Restoration by Eagle

Jaguar E-Type Speedster Restoration by Eagle

Don’t really know how to start on this. The Eagle group are die-hard Jaguar E-type fans – more than fans, really. They are premier restorers of the classic automobiles. Their latest is this incredible re-work of the Jaguar E-type Speedster with photos that make you dream a bit.

Conversations started between him and Paul Brace from Eagle, and the word Speedster’ was mentioned.  Paul got out his pencil and sketched a shape. Rick loved it, and that was the start of Eagle Speedster No.1.   Over the next months, in tandem with running the main Eagle business, Paul worked to design and perfect the details of this truly unique and extraordinary E-Type…Faithful to the Jaguar E-Type of the 1960s with classic detail and finishing, it was fitted with the finest Eagle E-Type engineering including the Eagle  4.7 litre engine, the 5-speed gearbox and the optimized suspension.”

Nasty… the good way.

Andrew Richardson “Richardson” Magazine and Sex

25 May 2011, 20.30 | Posted in Books & Magazines | No comments »

Andrew Richardson "Richardson" Magazine and Sex

We’ve been a fan of the Richardson Magazine title for some time. It is a true provocative view of nudity in an arguably non-pornographic manner. A recent interview with Style.com shed more light on the man, the magazine, and the his take on the meaning of “asexuality.”

On the difference between a “sex” and “porno” magazines:  ”Do you see Richardson as a porn magazine? No. We like to call it a sex magazine. We recontextualize sex; we’re analytical about it. Richardson isn’t about coming. Which is the point of porn.’ So what is the point?Stimulation. Not orgasm stimulation, but stimulating debate. It’s like an asexual sex magazine.’ “
