Selectism - va-masters-of-style

01. Fashion did not destroy Galliano

“Fashion, I understand, is a seductive target. It’s hard to resist attacking such a big, glossy, seemingly superficial industry. But please, can we stop? Yesterday, reading another treatise (this one by Tom Sykes in the Sunday Telegraph) blaming fashion for John Galliano’s descent into addiction, which led to his arrest for alleged anti-Semitic remarks, which led to his firing from Christian Dior and the house that bears his name, which led to a trial last week, I wanted to rip my hair out. Come on. Can we get some perspective?” (Financial Times)

02. David Haye promises ‘brutal execution’

“WBA champion David Haye promises a “brutal execution” of Wladimir Klitschko in their heavyweight fight Saturday.

Calling the IBF and WBO champion a “robot” stuck in his “rigid ways,” Haye said he was in the best shape of his life and vowed to send the younger Klitschko brother to hospital in their bout in Hamburg’s soccer stadium.

“You are going to see the most brutal execution of a boxer,” Haye said Monday. “I will absolutely destroy him.” (ESPN)

03. Building a luxury brand on a shoestring

“Inspiration can come from the strangest places. For Marc Hare, the combination of a week from hell and an encounter in a tapas bar were the catalysts for his transformation from disgruntled marketer to luxury men’s shoe designer.

“I had this week where I thought I might as well end it all now,” he says of the seven days in 2007 in which his marriage ended, he was made redundant from his marketing job at Swedish fashion retailer J. Lindeberg and he broke his leg.” (The Telegraph)

04. Masters of Style: Celebrating the Stories behind Italian Fashion (Pictured)

“To mark the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification, Masters of Style brings together six of Italy’s most influential fashion houses to celebrate the stories behind Italian fashion. Looking at defining moments from their advertising campaigns, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, Gucci, Missoni and Prada will showcase a personally hand-picked selection of images from their collections and archives, bringing to life iconic style moments and offering an insight into the passion and influences behind their work.” (Somerset House)
