Selectism - 2011 shotbyjake-1

Curated lets us know about Jeremy Fish’s latest exhibition:

“His second solo showing at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery, celebrates stories and story tellers. For the project, Fish tapped a few friends for inspiration – among them Snoop Dogg and artist Mike Giant. Fish realizes all participants stories in his signature, richly detailed narrative painting and for the enjoyment of the gallery visitor, he’s placed an audio recording of each subject’s story next to the respective work of art.”

Martell & Pinell Pinell Trunk

Selectism - martell-pinell-01

The house of Martell teamed up with Frédéric Pinel to create this handsome looking trunk. Before we go on, can we say how great it must be to be part of the House of Martell? In fact, can we start calling this the House of Selectism? It’s so much classier than Selectism towers or Selectism HQ. And yeah, this trunk is filled with glasses, ashtrays, cire trudon candles, cigar cutters and enough drink to please any drink connoisseur/alocholic. (Another something)

Junya Watanabe Spring/Summer 2012 Runway

Selectism - junya-watanabe-spring-2012-01

Well, we say runway, we actually mean grass path. GQ has the looks from Watanabe’s latest collection, which took place on greenery. The showpiece of the show? Dungarees. Yes, those dungarees. It’s more stylish farmer than DMX circa 1998, but the Watanabe fans (Watanabenettes?) will be on the fence about it. If dungarees aren’t your thing, you’re sure to like the outerwear, which is as amazing as it always was.

Take a leap to see for yourself.

Mark McNairy Stone Suede Brogues

Selectism - mcnairy-suede-longwing-brogues-01

Kick in the door waving the four four with these McNairy brogues. We’re gonna be outright stubborn and say we still prefer the traditional UK brogue over the long wing, but we can appreciate the beauty in both of them. With a suede upper and red brick sole, this is a shoe best saved for those days when rain is an impossibility. Otherwise you’ll be doing your best Antonio Daniels guarding Allen Iverson impression. Gitman Vintage for French Trotters Navy Shirt

Selectism - gitman-vintage-french-trotter-shirt-01

A classy collaboration, we thought that now it’s officially shirt and maybe(italics) a cardigan weather, it’s time to showcase any ones with interesting details. We’ve been trying to do a Jack Kevorkian on check shirts for a while now but they refuse to go away. So instead we’ve come to a compromise – just put the checks on your shoulder and you’ll be okay. Woolrich Arctic Parka for 14 oz. Berlin

Woolrich Artic Parka for 14 oz. Berlin

In an interesting collaboration Woolrich has gotten together with Berlin retailer 14 oz. Together they worked on the most iconic piece of the collection, the Arctic Parka. The retailer chose 5 exclusive colorways and used Byrd Cloth on the upper of the parka. We especially like the yellow and royal blue versions. Overall the parka will come limited to 600 pieces and is slotted for a release July 2011 at 14 oz.

Take a detailed look at the parkas after the jump.

Sophnet Camouflage Print Shirt

Selectism - sophnet-camo-print-shirt-01

Hey, have you thought about mixing patterns? Of course you have, you’re only human. So what about a shirt that does the mixing for you? This Sophnet shirt does just that, mixing a printed camo pattern on top of a check pattern for a patternfest of a shirt. Despite being a patternfest, it’s relatively subtle compared to the melange of banana prints and faux-African prints we’ve seen lately. (Firmament)

Selectism | Around the Web

01. Coffee: Greatest Addiction Ever
“As someone with a background in physics, I was delighted to find out that the amount of caffeine in a person follows a half-life curve. Briefly, if you drink 300mg of caffeine, five hours later there will be 150mg left in your body. Five more hours later there will be 75mg, five more hours 37.5mg and so on.” (greysblog)

02. Pitchfork Interviews: Louis C.K.
“Because of Twitter and YouTube, you can have a fan base that stays there waiting for you, and they don’t necessarily have to be advertised to, which costs a lot. But again, it’s all very precarious because all of these people could grow up to another part of their life and just decide that they don’t like my comedy anymore.”
(pitchfork)

03. Jim Denevan etches impermanent geometric drawings into California beaches (above)
“Jim Denevan is a surfer, a sand artist, and a self-taught chef, the man behind the traveling outdoor dining experience Outstanding in the Field (previously). His geometric sand sculptures are made with little more than rakes and sticks and can span miles of North California beaches. The pieces take many hours to create but can often disappear much quicker as the incoming tide gently erases them from earth.” (colossal)

04. Lytro: A Camera That Couldn’t Care Less About Focus
“The basic premise of Lytro’s technology is pretty simple: The camera captures all the information it possibly can about the field of light in front of it. You then get a digital photo that is adjustable in an almost infinite number of ways. You can focus anywhere in the picture, change the light levels — and presuming you’re using a device with a 3-D ready screen — even create a picture you can tilt and shift in three dimensions. (I got a demonstration of the camera’s 3-D photos on a laptop and was blown away.)” (mashable)
