“Tennis Fashion” Book

tennis fashion 01 selectism Tennis Fashion Book

New from Assouline, Diane Elisabeth Poirier’s Tennis Fashion Tennis Fashion Book shares the cultural and societal impact of on court fashions through history.

Looking at the fashion of tennis is like opening a window into culture and society. Tennis is the second most popular sport in the West, and over the last century it has become, more than any other, an important part of our society and culture. The remarkable impact of tennis is apparent in the record number of fans and spectators the sport has attracted in the thirty years since major tournaments have been broadcast live on radio and TV. As tennis comes of age with yet another museum devoted to it in Paris (inaugurated at Roland-Garros during the May 2003 championship), this journey through the history of tennis fashions sheds new light on the top sporting events of the 20th century, on the lifestyles that tennis brought into being and turns the spotlight on the most charismatic champions and the way they have influenced the fashions of their time.

The book features 60 images over 80 pages, and is being sold at the very reasonable price of $25.00.

All done? ok. SNS have kicked it up a notch this spring, doing a short sleeved knit alongside the regular lightweight stuff.

Take that leap, see those images.

selectism - New Schnapps from Denim Demon

This week in Paris, Stockholm’s Denim Demon does more than reveal their Spring 2012 collection… they release a new selection of  specialty Schnapps as well. The names of the flavors flirt with the original names from jeans styles Aajja and Aahka (Grandfather and Grandmother) – Aajjavit is flavored with cumin, fennel and oak barrel aged whiskey and Aahkavit is spiced with cumin and dill. The liquor is a collaborative effort between Denim Demon, Buustamon and Rendez-Vous.

Selectism - Nigel-Cabourn-spring-2012-01

Yep, we’re still going through Pitti. This time it’s designer/outerwear genius/legend Nigel Cabourn. We know you’ve probably seen some of this by now but it won’t hurt to take a look. Of course, being the outerwear god meant we had to showcase some of the best pieces. That, and it’s a little weird stripping off and trying on shirts at a tradeshow.

Take a look for yourself after the leap.

Here’s another fashion break:

“Salon 94 is pleased to present For the Kids, an exhibition of sports lithographs from the archives of John and Tock Costacos. Opening on Thursday, June 23rd 2011 at Salon 94 Freemans and curated by Fabienne Stephan and Adam Shopkorn, the show serves as a mini-retrospective of early Costacos posters from 1986 through 1990. In addition to these works, pieces will be presented from Jeff Koons’s first solo exhibition, Equilibrium, the 1985 show that included basketballs floating in display tanks, cast bronze standard scuba diving tanks and framed advertising posters that appropriated imagery contained in Nike advertisements that preceded the earliest Costacos work.”

Reyn Spooner for Opening Ceremony Shirt

Ahh, the long sleeve/short sleeve argument. We’re not anti-short sleeves per se, but we just feel a long sleeve is that little bit more versatile. Forgive us in advance for this foray into sleeve geekery, but we quite enjoy being able to roll up our sleeves if need be. Well ‘enjoy’ is too strong a word, but it’s nice to be able to do that when a sudden windchill comes around. And yes, these are the things we worry about these days. (Opening Ceremony)
