Capsule | Oliver Spencer Spring/Summer 2012

Selectism - oliver-spencer-spring-2012-01

While we’d worried that Oliver Spencer had gone all fashion with a catwalk show, it looks like he’s still doing the tradeshow thing. On the footwear side of things he’s added some loafers and even some trainers to the mix. Elsewhere it’s the Oliver (or Olly as we call him) you know and love, with polka dotted shirts and casual blazers making an appearance.

Hop to it!

Selectism - warriors-of-radness-spring-2012-03

Aaaaaand we’re kicking off today’s Capsule recap with a look at those Warriors. Bringing sunshine (lollipops and rainbows) to their stand at Capsule, they showcased their wares. As you’d expect from a spring collection, there’s plenty of shorts, short sleeved shirts and lightweight knits involved.

Take a leap to see the kinda stuff we’d rock on the beach.

ACE Hotel NYC Gets Google Chrombooks with Superfuture Guide

Some hotels get iPads. The ACE Hotel NYC does it Chromebook style. Working with Google, the hotel landmark now outfits all guests with the Google Chromebook and special slipcase from July through September 2011. Superfuture worked on the project’s Field Guide, which acts as a city guide to Manhattan and beyond. The launch is timed well. Virgin America has also announced that Chromebooks will be part of their in-flight offering for some time.

Last thing: with that special ACE x Chrombook slipcase, you’ll also find a notebook, which you can keep.

Second Look | Uniforms for the Dedicated talk about industrial engineers, skinheads and the dullness of wearing one look head to toe

Selectism - www.selectism

Though they span the realms of art, film and music, Uniforms for the Dedicated are, well, dedicated to clothes and they consistently create canny garments with a rebellious playfulness at their core. We spoke to Fredrik Wikholm to find out more.

Armando Cabral Spring/Summer 2012

Selectism - armando-cabral-spring-2012-01

We’re not sure what it is about modelling but it tends to bring out the slash in people. You know, model slash actor, slash skateboarder and so on. Armando Cabral is a slash shoemaker with the slight difference that his stuff is actually good – as opposed to just being tolerable (We’re looking at you Mr Gandy – you and your useless style tips).

Get up close and personal with a few models after the leap.

Curated lets us know about our new favourite topic, folding chairs:

“While these aren’t new, there is no reason not to remind of the simple glory of the Pantone Folding Chair. A good burst of color (quite specific color) for any interior, the chairs are fairly priced at around $65.00 and come in a delightful assortment. Designed by Selab Studio for the Italian design house Seletti, the aluminum folding chairs have a padded seats and backs for comfort.”

Monitaly ‘Peter’ Shirt

Selectism - monitaly-peter-shirt

You know the worst thing about buying something now? The fact that it might go on sale any day now. We’ve all done it – bought something in a rush before seeing it in a sale a week or so later. We mean, do you return it and buy it again or just keep it? Before we go any more off topic, the reason we bring this up is because of this shirt. It’s currently full price and could enter the sale at any time. Do you roll the dice and purchase it at full price or play the waiting game and potentially see it get sold before you can buy it? These are the decisions that keep us up at night. (Garbstore)

It’s Nice That Issue #6

itsnicethat issue6 1 It’s Nice That Issue #6

New issue from the It’s Nice That collective always make my day. Must be the reference-like appeal of the simple rectangular image on the front against a solid spine. Yes, the little things. It’s Nice That Issue 6 delivers in a few weeks, July 14 to be exact.  George Lois takes the cover. You’ll also find features and interviews with New York based artist Lawrence Weiner, Danish photographer Asger Carlsen and gallerist Kate MacGarry. I’m most interested to hear Mikey Please’s take on the importance of  imperfection.

Wood Wood ‘Eric’ Shorts

Selectism - wood-wood-eric-shorts-01

While it’s easy to go pattern crazy right now, we’d like to exercise some restraint. Why not go patterned up top and plain down low? It’s much better than looking like a fabric factory threw up on you. And these are on sale, which will come in handy when the sun really arrives (in a month or so’s time, when stores are selling leather gloves). [Wood Wood]
