Selectism - Bill-Amberg-Spring-2012-01

With five new ranges and a recent crowdsourcing project, Bill Amberg’s been a busy boy. We caught up with him at Pitti to ask him a few questions and get a look at his bags.

See both after the leap.

Pitti | Barena Spring/Summer 2012

Selectism - Barena-spring-2012-09

Barena have been on our radar for a while, but we haven’t delved into the brand properly until today. As you’d expect for spring range showing at Pitti, it’s a lightweight linen affair but there’s enough subtle touches and patterns to move it away from blue suited uniformity. We also caught up with one of the owners, Francesca Zara for a quick Q&A about the brand, her favourite piece from her collection her love for the countryside.

Read it and look at more of the collection after the leap.

Umbro for Nottingham Forest 2011/2012 Home

selectism - Umbro for Nottingham Forest 2011/2012 Home

Nottingham Forest will be dressed in this smooth number as the club attempts to progress out of the Championship during the 2011/2012 season. Tailored by Umbro, the red kit with white collar benefits (in our eyes) from the rather absurd sponsor emblazoned across the front. Can’t quite put a finger on why we like it… but, hey, we do. Is it the appointment of Steve McClaren as manager?

More from Snob. Band of Outsider for Sperry Top-sider collection. Coming Spring 2012. “Next to a great denim patchwork style, they present a navy/red stripe version and a series of great tonal color-ups of the boat shoe for the coming season.”

Pitti | Adam Kimmel for Carhartt Spring/Summer 2012

adam kimmel carhartt ss12 0 Pitti | Adam Kimmel for Carhartt Spring/Summer 2012

Highsnob delivers looks from Carhartt’s Adam Kimmel line for Spring/Summer 2012 collection as shown at Pitti Uomo.  ”The collection releases for the first time this coming July for Fall/Winter 2011. The upcoming SS12 line plays mostly with black, beige and of course the signature blue tones of the New York designer. Made up of t-shirts, crewneck sweaters, jackets, blazers, as well as some mesh caps, it would not be a Kimmel collection without a couple of reversible pieces as well. The line stays true to both brands and is certainly something to look out for.”

01. Ink-n-Iron 2011 Redux (Above)

“We’re back in Brooklyn after a gorgeous weekend in Long Beach for the Ink-n-Iron Tattoo & Kustom Culture Fest…and really not a moment too soon as the California sun, cool breezes and laid-back dudeness were dulling our New York self-righteousness and sarcasm. But we made it back in one angry piece.” (Needles & Sins).

02. A New VC Model That Turns Designers, Not Techies, Into Startup CEOs

“Enrique Allen had an epiphany one morning about how to bring design literacy to Silicon Valley. Instead of spending so much of his energy mentoring and consulting with startups about how to bring iterative creative thinking and a respect for user experience to their company culture, why not do the inverse? “I realized I should be helping designers become more startup-ey,” Allen tells Co.Design. “Those are the people, who, if they become leaders of a company, will model that ‘designery’ behavior that from its inception, right in the company’s DNA.” So he started The Designer Fund to give entrepreneurial designers an on-ramp into the Silicon Valley world of angel investor networks, demo days, and funding rounds. “It’s about helping to give designers a seat at the startup table that engineers and MBAs already have,” Allen says. The intended result: Smarter companies, better products, happier users — and an improved world.” (Fast Company).

03. Burgermat art show and pop-up dinner, London

“Thanks to a growing revival that’s been sweeping cities worldwide, the burger – that simple staple of meat between two buns – has become the recipient of more variations on a theme than most food combinations. Fuelled by their mutual obsession, Daniel Young – creator of cult burger meet-up events BurgerMonday and youngandfoodish.com – together with fellow blogger Burgerac (who unsurprisingly met at a burger meetup in London) have joined forces for the first ever Burgermat art show and pop-up dinner. ” (Wallpaper*).

04. Clint Dempsey Will Not Be Composing A Rap Song About This Moment

“Jozy Altidore, from distance. Yes, it was a goal against Guadeloupe, and, yes, it was the only goal against Guadeloupe, but if anything could make a U.S. fan feel better about limping into the CONCACAF Gold Cup’s knockout stages with a 1-0 result against a team from the Lesser Antilles, it was this.” (Deadspin).

Pitti | Esemplare Spring/Summer 2012

Pitti | Esemplare Spring/Summer 2012

Italy’s Esemplare showcases their Spring/Summer 2012 collection at this summer’s Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy. The collection, which uses new technical fabrics across various outerwear silhouettes (as seen in our gallery) also mixes in some classic looks, including the toggle coat shown above. They’re more technical than a contract lawyer’s personal pre-nup agreement. Overall the Esemplare looks are forward thinking technical takes on outerwear that warrants a deserving consideration.

Pitti | Camoshita by United Arrows Spring/Summer 2012

Japan’s United Arrows is looking to expand their European doors with their tailored Camoshita collection, which pays homage to fine Italian tailoring with a Japanese spin. Traditional kimono patterned fabrics, also used in handkerchiefs are elegantly used on trousers. Easily some of the strongest patterning we have seen at Pitti. We feature a variety of other garments including a clean white blazer and more…
