Selectism - jil-sander-derby-01

Trawling through Yoox is a little tiresome at times at best, but there are some good picks to be found. Take these Jil Sander derbies for instance. They’re pretty, tanned and only £195. What more can we say? (Yoox)

Read Your Bookcase

Selectism - read-your-bookcase-01

Here’s one for that faux-reading friend you have. Italian cabinet company Saporiti have made this handsome bookcase which doubles up as a nice message. We’re not sure if this will be worth it if you actually read your books but it’ll be a great gift for anyone who likes to buy books just to say they have them. (via Fubiz)

Kurt Geiger x Tricker’s Two-Tone Brogue Boot

Kurt Geiger x Tricker's Two-Tone Brogue Boot

Sorry for the influx in Tricker’s news, but we do think this one is worth mentioning as well. Kurt Geiger once again worked with the shoemaker for Autumn/Winter 2011 and presents a Two-Tone Brogue Boot. Aside from the interesting use of materials on these, the toe construction is certainly the eye catcher. (GQ)

Fila Supra Shorts

Board shorts are all the rage this summer (much like any summer in eternity) and we’re liking these Fila versions. White shorts can be a bit hit or miss but as long as you contrast it with dark-ish shirt (we’re thinking one of those navy floral numbers) you should be all right. (End)

Once again Berlin retailer 14 oz. has worked with Tricker’s. For Spring/Summer 2011 they present the classic Chukka Boot. It comes in their own custom dark green and blue tones, featuring the red cotton heel tab that we have already seen on their previous collaborations with the British shoemaker.

Li-Rong Liao’s Felt Furniture

Selectism - felt-01-curatedmag
Curated lets us know about this:

“For much of 2011, designer Li-Rong Liao’s been working with cardboard and felt. The material choices are part of a larger experiment, which finds the Pratt Institute student investigating the balance of strength and aesthetic in different folding processes. Her discoveries lend well to both home furnishings and fashions, with seating a particular strong point of her current collection. Above is the Folded Felt Stool made with a single sheet of folded cardboard and finished in felt.”

Nike Vintage Blazer

We’re not frivolous all the time you know. Sometimes we’re deep, meaningful – insightful, even. When we’re in that mode we ask questions like ‘can you ever wear high tops with shorts?’ We’re torn on this issue. We’ve seen it look good and we’ve seen it look bad. It all depends on the height of the high top (we prefer mid-top height) and the length of the shorts. We think these Nike Blazer’s would look good with shorts, but don’t go blaming us if they don’t. 03. Middlesex BA Graduate Showcase… Yasmin Bawa
“Last Thursday was a gluttonous feast of emerging talent as the class of 2011 stepped in to the spotlight. Before taking my seat at the highly anticipated RCA MA show I was treated to a couple of real menswear gems at the Middlesex BA show. Now, a few people doubted the feasibility of making both shows but fortunately thanks to a speedy taxi driver the seemingly impossible was possible. The reason why I pushed the possibilities was Yasmin Bawa. Regular readers should recall that we first introduced the young talent in December and were instantly dazzled by her pre collection. Since then, Bawa has completed her graduate BA at Middlesex and the collection was one of the highlights of a packed evening.” (Style Salvage)

04. Book Reviews: The Autobiographies Of Barry McGuigan And Carl Froch
“Boxing fans looking for a book to accompany them onto the beach this summer are in luck, with Ebury Publishing having released a pair of autobiographies ahead of the sunburn season, to help tide interested parties through the interminable tedium of the airport lounge.” (Queensbury Rules)

BoF “The Trouble with iPad Magazines”

BoF "The Trouble with iPad Magazines"

Business of Fashion has a strong write-up on the emergence of iPad magazine apps and their slow taking by the public as an alternative to the world of print. “The aesthetically appealing iPad has also found particular resonance with both fashion consumers and industry insiders. ‘Pictures and videos look amazing on the tablet,’ said founder and editorial director of Dazed Group, Jefferson Hack. ‘Photographers, stylists, art directors and designers are all showing their ideas, inspirations and finished work on [Apple] tablets.’ …But in stark contrast to the overwhelming success of Apple’s tablet, iPad magazines have yet to take off.”
