Christopher Shannon Stripe Panel Shirt

28 June 2011, 10.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

Selectism - christopher-shannon-panel-shirt-01

First off, this shirt isn’t new (so save the snarky comments for another day, m’kay?) But it is handsome and, more importantly, it is on sale. This got ignored when we first put it up, but that was during the times when people wrote earnestly about oxford shirts. It’s a new world these days, full of banana prints and everything – which means a shirt like this looks downright subtle, timeless even. (C-Store)

01. Designer Babble

“Parlez vous design? It’s sometimes embarrassing the way that designers prostrate themselves—and the English language—in their promotional material. It may be true that some clients (or prospective clients) don’t have a good grasp of what design is, but most have eyes. During the nascent period of graphic design, around the mid-1920s, all that a commercial artist in one of the many promotional annuals had to say was “Jeanne Doe, calligraphy, layout, illustration,” and the point was made (in part because the services were being bought by agencies or art directors, not directly by clients). Today, with non-design clients being more active in the hiring process, something called design philosophy has become the basis of a new patois. Philosophy is fine, but when it turns to sophistry—beware!” (Daily Heller).

02. Arsenal board ready to sell Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona

“Arsenal are prepared to sell Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona if the two clubs can agree a price for the Spanish midfielder, BBC Sport has learned.” (BBC).

03. I’m Your Mixologist

“Hey, fella. Looks like you’ve had a rough day. You can tell me your troubles about ten minutes from now, after I’ve finished reviewing our extensive original cocktail list. My signature creation is off the menu but—” (McSweeney’s).

04. Watts Towers Conservation Project (Above)

“Owned by the State of California and managed by the City of Los Angeles, The Watts Towers are a National Historic Landmark and one of the most widely recognized works of art to come out of Southern California in the last century.” (LACMA).

1ST PAT-RN Spring/Summer 2012

1st PAT-RN Spring 2012

1ST PAT-RN is a new line for Spring 2012 that is  committed to producing garments in Italy that pull from the “concepts of excellence and research of the manufacturers who produced on international scale at the end of the 40s. Those who used the best yarns and knitted fabrics, which very often came from the military world where quality, resistance and textile construction have always been of the most importance.”

Much of the line is inspired by the quality control found in official military garments while producing every last material in Italy including local yarns, Bottonificio Fenili buttons, to the ZIP GDF zippers. The small collection is made up of four looks: D.B.Jacket, Anorak, Crew Neck, and a Fisherman Sweater.

Noble Tonic No.1 Maple Syrup

27 June 2011, 23.00 | Posted in Food & Beverages | No comments »

Noble Tonic No.1 Maple Syrup

Bourbon infused maple syrup sounds damn tasty. Noble’s Tonic No.1 does it. “To create the Bourbon syrup (a.k.a. Noble Tonic 01), a dash of raw Tuthilltown bourbon is added before the syrup is aged in oak barrels. Smooth and creamy tasting, it’s a grown-up take on maple. Tahitian vanilla beans and apple-scented Egyptian chamomile blossoms are added to the Vanilla syrup (a.k.a. Noble Tonic 02), resulting in a delicately balanced, fruity-floral tasting sweetener.” About $50 a bottle.

Canada’s Naked & Famous denim house goes head to head with AMS’s own Tenue de Nimes for a special 24 pair run of 13oz green rope-dyed repro denim. They have a vintage army feel to them. “Specific attention has been paid to matching the shade of green perfectly. The mid-green color proved a particular challenge since the dye is very unstable, but the hard work has paid off, giving us a beautiful and truly inspired color.” Well done fellas. Available online.

“Fashion photographer Graham Lott teamed up with the Creative Agency Boyce & Brown to create a short cinematic video showcasing the Gilded Age Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. Inspired by patriot Joseph Lloyd’s paranoid flight from Long Island after the British seized it, the project brings the area’s past into its present, fusing the land’s history with current-day suburbia.”

3.1 Phillip Lim Men’s Spring/Summer 2012

3.1 Phillip Lim Men's Spring/Summer 2012

Fashionisto gives their take on the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2012 collection. “Showing abroad once more, Phillip Lim takes a piece of California with him, looking to skaters for the inspiration of his latest collection. A little rough around the edges for Lim standards, the designer infuses spring’s range with quirk and spontaniety. From baggy shorts and wide silhouettes that taper to a multitude of texture, the Phillip Lim man rekindles his youth with upbeat spring layers.”
