Deschutes Twilight Summer Ale

twilight 01 selectism Deschutes Twilight Summer Ale

Bend, Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery might anger some – mostly because of lack of availability on the East Coast – but the critics are regularly wowed by the operations offerings. Twilight, the summer brew, is a two time gold medal winner. “A lighter, yet full-flavored, aromatic Ale for the long days of summer. Twilight’s solid malt foundation pairs with distinctive Amarillo hops for flavors every bit as intriguing as bigger, heavier ales. A back porch, lingering sunset wonder.”

made crafted 01 selectism Selectism Q&A | Levis Made & Crafted

Levi’s Made & Crafted was founded on a simple premise – “Modern items based on the principles of good design.” In that mission, the Levi’s DNA forms a backbone for forward thinking approaches to classic garments and accessories, all of which privileges the right fabrics and the correct manufacturing. For Autumn 2011 the line, now in its second full season, has expanded to include knits, shirting, and a special capsule collection of “Made in the USA” denim. The looks are contemporary and fresh, but with a decidedly familiar feel; the balance of new and old in the pieces struck admirably.

We caught up with the Amsterdam based Made & Crafted design team to chat about the Autumn 2011 collection and to see what the future holds for the line.

Our discussion, and some fine garments, after the jump.

Henrik Vibskov “Type B” Eau de Toilette

Henrik Vibskov "Type B" Eau de Toilette

What up Berlin. Looks like Vibskov’s giving you the love with his new scent “TYPE B, for Berlin, captures a cold winter’s day in the former Eastern part of the city, where – even today – numerous buildings and houses are heated with coal.” Coal. They describe the scent as starting off spicy with some black pepper and sulphur smells that resemble a burning match. It them moves into woody territory and then “burns” its way to a musky birch and coal tar.  Colette has it.

Someone send me a sampler.

ps: We love the knit coozie around the bottle.

Viberg for Iron Heart Scout Boot

Canada’s Viberg works a special edition boot for Japan’s Iron Heart company. One of my favorite rugged real street/moto brands from Japan, Iron Heart gives it the full treatment on this Scout boot that comes wrapped with a 21oz and a buffalo leather wrapped vamp. Nicely done. Available now from the Ironheart UK online shop.

“These Friends at ACE” in New York

29 July 2011, 19.00 | Posted in Art | 2 comments »

"These Friends at ACE" in Los Angeles

While this type of announcement would usually land on Curated first, I didn’t discover the show directly through the ACE itself. Rather, I found it while reading one of my favorite Tumblr pages, WhereNext. WhereNext is more of a less the clearing house for all information Sandwell District. For those who have been following any of the current movements in techno, the name should be familiar. For those that do not know the backstory, it is one of mystical interest and disinformation around very quality music. To be honest, I don’t even know how to begin explaining what Sandwell District is.

What I do know is that the back cover art to their Feed-Forward CD is being shown at the ACE Hotel in New York City during the “These Friend at ACE.” The specific piece I very curious to see is “The Loveless” by Juan Mendez. He’s part of SD. It’s been used across various Sandwell District releases for about a year at this point.

Of course many others will be showing including: Will Bryant, Danny Clinch, Chris Duncan, Yudi Echeverria, Erin Garcia, Daniel Gibson, Jim Houser, Mel Kadel, Noah Kalina, Justin Thomas Kay, Curtis Kulig, Geoff Mcfetridge, Bryan Sheffield, and many more.

The new season brings use of new materials including waterproof fabrics, heavyweight thermo padding (found in their parka jackets), taped seams and more. The movement is to something more technically inspired. Some garments like their Field Shirt are made from “Japanese oat mélange ecru dyed wool” and feature hand sewn four hole antic brass metal buttons.

Much to see here in the new Han collection.

And if you’re wondering if we’re so simple that we’re excited by a tree shaped paper clip holder then the answer is yes. Yes we are. (Muji)
