Selectism - burkman-bros-autumn-2011-01

The Brothers Burkman have been cutting up a storm recently, gaining plenty of new fans in Europe – including the likes of Dover Street Market, Liberty & L’Eclaireur – and they’ve just released these illustrated images to show off this collection. Illustrated by Michael Sanderson, they’re a great way to add life to a collection. There’s only so many pictures of dead eyed surly models in the woods we can take.

If, like everyone in the menswear world right, are interested in the process then this book Process: 50 Product Designs from Concept to Manufacture Book should pique your interest. The title’s pretty self explanatory but the fact that the focus is on design and not fashion shouldn’t put anyone off. Focusing on furniture, tableware, lighting and textiles, there’s more than enough information for anyone obsessed with the making of products. Available from Amazon Process: 50 Product Designs from Concept to Manufacture Book.

Selectism - dream-bookshelf-02

Dripta Design Studio have made the dream bookshelf, which has no relation to the R&B singer. Aside from looking cool (our main reason for liking anything) the smaller compartments actually looking rather useful as remote holders. (Fubiz)

Rick Owens Leather Jacket

Selectism - ln-cc-owens-jacket-01

We’ve decided to continue our penchant for seasonally bizarre picks, this time going with this Rick Owens leather jacket, which we shot during our trip down to LN-CC. It’s not much good for now (unless you’re in the UK, where the weather refuses to pick up) but it’s one to keep an eye out for. (LN-CC)

Selectism - Setagaya-Flat-02

Depend on your outlook, this post is either inspiration to show a partner or images for your tumblr. Whatever your reason for liking this post – and yes we will assume you like this – it’s a great looking place and definite flat porn. Created by Naruse Inokuma Architects, it’s basically just a renovation of an old flat, albeit the sort of renovation we dream about. (Spoon & Tamago)

Selectism - Nuke-lamp-03

Continuing our ongoing pursuit of the cool search for nice stuff, we came across this lamp. It could be seen as a comment on the world as it is today, or a comment on how light is destroying us all. Or it could just be a nice lamp. (Yanko)

Selectism | Around the Web with Spotify

Spotify

You can see that we’re very excited about the Spotify launch in the U.S.A. Here’s some of our favorite Spotify helper links. Dig in.

01. Top 5 Spotify Home Systems: From Apple to Zeppelin

“You can now play over 15 million Spotify songs on your computer for free in this country — partially because Spotify counts on the fact that if you get addicted to listening to music and building playlists on the service, you’ll want to play those playlists and listen to that music on other devices: your smartphone and your home stereo.” (evolver)

02. Pitchify

Take all those great Pitchfork reviews and get links to them in Spotify. (pitchify)

03. Spotify Has Some Celebrity Friends In High Places

“Britney Spears Tweeted about her excitement for Spotify to arrive yesterday afternoon, and followed up with a message this morning with invites for the service. Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor (who also wrote the score for The Social Network), Tweeted “Finally! Spotify is coming to the US. I’ve been using this for a while and it’s great.” Like Spears, Reznor generously followed up with free invites for followers.” (mashable)

04. New Service Offers Music in Quantity, Not by Song

“After nearly two years of stop-start negotiations with record labels, Spotify was preparing to finally open in the United States. With less than 48 hours before its planned start, however, the company still had not completed its final major label deal, with the Warner Music Group.” (nyt)

http://www.vimeo.com/26000970

“The eyes of the world have turned to the UK in recent years and have found some of the most exciting, genre-defying young artists to emerge from electronic music. But while London’s scene can be fractious and hard to pin down, there seems to be something in the air in Bristol that unites its participants. Whether they’re creating dubstep, house, techno or something else entirely, the cross-pollination in Bristol is unique…”

crackle 01 selectism Crackle Champagne Glasses

A departure from the traditional flute, Nick Munro’s Crackle Champagne Glasses are mouth blown in the Czech Republic and then submerged in cold water to achieve the broken effect. Sold in a set of two, these are on sale this summer at MoMA… just in case you were in need of a something proper to house those weekend mimosas.

Munro designed the glasses in 1995.
