Moscot for BLK DNM Sunglasses

BLK DNM, the new line from Johan Lindeberg, is already at it with an exception collaboration with New York’s Moscot eyewear line. Launched today, the Moscot x BLK DNM Sunglass collection features three frames shapes that run the classic square to a chunkier look. Moscot uses the highest quality parts including five-barrel hinges and their “signature” metal inserts along the temples. Flimsy they are not. Well built and available now from BLK DMN.

Selectism - underwater-bedroom-03

We’re not usually in the business of just posting up hotel rooms willy-nilly but, as you can see, this isn’t just any hotel room. As much as we enjoy the pictures, part of us would be terrified of actually taking the room. We’ve seen Deep Blue Sea far too many times to think some tough glass will stop those fish if they get angry. (Fubiz)

Selectism - Lncc-Store-Visit-03

We kicked off our store visit series with Lock & Co, so it’s only right that we do something completely different this week and feature LN-CC, the relative new kid on the block when it comes to retail spaces. The young whippersnapper of stores, if you will.

Let us hold your hand and take your around the store after the leap.

Life and Death of Colonel Blimp Selectism | Around the Web

01. This Is Not a Manifesto, It’s Just My Opinion

“It’s almost as if tattooers are evolving, finally able to set aside trivialities in order to agree upon the more important issues. All this TLC outrage is kind of encouraging. Not simply because people are pissed, but because pissed people can affect change.” (TAM)

02. Trey Anastasio interviewed by Ross Simonini

“In a time when jazz is barely a smudge on the cultural radar, the marriage of improvisation and popular music continues nowhere more apparently than with the Vermont rock band Phish. Other artists may be touring and improvising—and they are—but they don’t sell out Madison Square Garden for three nights in a row and continue to host a series of annual, one-band festivals that draw upward of seventy thousand people, all for the adventure of musical improvisation.” (Believer)

03. Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (Above)

“The idiosyncratic and overlapping careers of Michael Powell (1905–1990) and Emeric Pressburger (1902–1988) are arguably the strongest challenge to the auteur theory, which holds that a single artist, the director, is the primary creative force behind a film. What happens when there are two directors? Andrew Sarris, in his seminal The American Cinema, pretty much evades the question by not allowing Powell and Pressburger a spot in any of the 11 categories (including “miscellany”) by which he defines directors worth mentioning. Yet I would find it hard to believe that Andy does not find more to admire in Powell/Pressburger than others he deemed worthy of inclusion, like Gordon Douglas or Arch Oboler. He does include several P/P films in his annual rankings (The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp earns P/P a ranking of 25 for 1945; The Red Shoes got them their highest rating, 19, in 1948. Personally, I would rate both of these—and several of their other films—somewhat higher.)” (Inside/Out)

04. Former NFLer Amos Zereoue Returns to his Soccer Roots at Cosmos Copa

“Amos Zereoue played seven seasons in the NFL as a bull of a running back, running through tackles and slamming into linebackers. In his post-American football life, he’s gone back to his roots as a soccer player.” (KCKRS)

selectism - Alden For Unionmade Bal Saddle Oxford

Alden’s Saddle Oxford has traditionally been a terrific muse for store specific make-ups. Blackbird, Leffot, and now Unionmade have each given the silhouette fantastic finishes, in keeping with both the shoe itself and the retailer’s individual aesthetic. Unionmade’s version navy alpine calf with a brown alpine leather at saddle and heel fox. Matching eyelets house waxed cotton laces.

Sennheiser HD 558 Headphone Review

13 July 2011, 23.00 | Posted in electronics | 4 comments »

sennheiser 558 headphones Sennheiser HD 558 Headphone Review

I’ve been sitting on this headphone review for a minute. The reason is that most headphones require at least 20-40 hours of playthrough to get the very best sound from them. In head-fi geek circles, it is called the “burn in.” Today, I can report that the Sennheiser HD 558 Sennheiser HD 558 Headphone Review, the latest model in Sennheiser’s “audiophile” category has burned in splendidly.

A step up from the incredibly popular and affordable, Sennheiser 555 Sennheiser HD 558 Headphone Review, the 558 brings just a touch more response in areas that many consumer consider important: bass and clarity. Like the Sennheiser 555, the 558 can be driven by just about any output device: from the iPhone, iPad, to your mobile, desktop computer, and beyond. While it may not come with the right-angle 3.5mm jack found on more portable models, there is an adapter for easy plug-in.

I am often asked what headphone model I recommend for someone taking a step up from their white earbuds. At just around $170 Sennheiser HD 558 Headphone Review, the Sennheiser 558 is a very strong contender in the sub $200 market. Again, with no additional amplification needed, the 558 will bring you a clarity unlike the stock earbuds that came with your mobile device in a full-sized open air headphone.  The all-black finish is a major plus as well. - Jeff
