Aspinal of London Embroidered Velvet Slipper

Selectism - aspinal-of-london-slipper-01

Get your Jeeves on with these embroidered slippers. As much as we like rolling the  street in our trainers, smoking endo and sippin’ on gin and juice, we do like getting regal. And you can’t get more regal than velvet slippers. They’re handmade in England and, more importantly, will make you feel like Hugh Hefner minus the weird, almost pedophiliac relationships. Selectism - velour-spring-2012-01

(DJ Clue voice)New Velour! Velour, Velour Velour(/DJ Clue voice). We received images of Velour’s SS12 collection and they were too solid, too classy, too damn handsome not to share. We know what Velour’s about – the chino, the duffle, the parka – but they do it so well that every new collection is worth a look. Anyway, enough rambling from us, take a look for yourselves.

Selectism - blogging-front-row

You want to know our secrets? Buy this book. It’s the sole reason we’ve become what we are today. We don’t believe in any of this blogging because you like the topic nonsense, we blog for the fame and endless riches. Thankfully, so does Yuli Ziv, and she’s compiled all of this useful advice into a book. The most chilling part of this book is that this is volume one, so a sequel is virtually guaranteed. scanwiches 07 selectism Scanwiches Book

Jon Chonko, a graphic designer, photographer, writer, and unashamed foodie, brings his popular blog scanwiches.com to print this November through powerHouse Books.  The product of a two year love affair with sandwiches, Chonko’s ode to the delicious versatility of all-things-between-bread runs the gamut from tea sandwiches to the mighty muffaleta. Hitting cafes, delis, and markets, Chonko’s journey delivers the sandwiches in full frontal actual size cross sections. Graphically appealing, and hunger inducing, Scanwiches Scanwiches Book provides brief histories of all included sandwiches – dare we say, that means a little food for thought?

Available from Amazon Scanwiches Book .

Selectism - black-milk-jack-white

01. Black Milk & Jack White: The Story (Pictured)

“It’s a pretty crazy feeling when you’re going about your regular, every day routine in the studio and all of sudden you get a phone call that Jack White wants to work with you. The email to my manager came from Jack White himself. My first reaction was one of shock that an artist like him, who most people would categorize as a rock star, would want to work with an independent hip-hop artist. My second reaction was surprise that he even knew I existed, even though we’re from the same city.” (Black Milk)

02. Label Watch: Visvim

“Started by Hiroki Nakamura ten years ago, Visvim first came to our attention when we heard about their novel online sale process (you ask for their permission to buy an item and, if you’re lucky and get chosen, are allowed to buy said item) and the five year process of joining a committee to use a certain type of cotton. We caught up with Hiroki himself to talk processes, manufacturing, prices and the exact deal with that cotton committee.” (Esquire)

03. Rupert Murdoch facing BSkyB defeat as parties unite in call to drop takeover

“Rupert Murdoch will face the humiliation of the Commons issuing a unanimous all-party call for his scandal-ridden News Corporation to withdraw its £8bn bid for BSkyB, the great commercial prize he has been pursuing to cement his dominance of the British media landscape.” (Guardian)

04. Paul Williams Tops Erislandy Lara In One Of The Worst Decisions You’ll Ever See

“Sometimes when boxing gets bad decisions, calls that make people throw around the word “robbery,” there’s some way I can figure out how it ended up that way. Saturday night on HBO, when the judges committed grand larceny against Erislandy Lara on the scale of “Ocean’s Eleven,” there is simply no justification or rationalization that anyone could use to plausibly argue that Paul Williams actually deserved to win that fight.” (Queensbury Rules)

Mark McNairy for Keds “Booster” Shoes

keds mcnairy boosters 1 Mark McNairy for Keds Booster Shoes

Back in the day (the 1930’s to be exact) Keds, premiered “Booster,” a low cost and simple flat walk shoe which just about anyone could afford. Later on, the Booster, and many other shoes like it, took on the name “Wino” for obvious reasons. The cost kept it on the feet of just about anyone who needed footwear.

Today, Keds, re-issues the Booster with some design help from our favorite cobble, Mark McNairy. Using similar “red brick” colors found on his in-line  collections. The “hopsack” canvas upper does them right. Three colorways start it off. Look for them in August. Urban Outfitters will carry them.
