01. The NFL’s Great Scrambling Act

“The NFL is about to embark on the most frantic free-agent period in its 18-year history. The schedule for acquiring new players has been compressed, giving teams all of 10 days to complete a free-agency process that usually takes a month. Prime targets identified back in February have been wallowing in limbo. Unlike every other year, coaches and general managers won’t have the benefit of a draft to patch up the spots they missed in free agency; if a franchise misses out on the player(s) it wants, it will be forced to wait until the post-training camp cuts to shore up its weakest parts.” (Grantland).

“I don’t photograph adults so much any more. I don’t have a child and, psychologically, my focus on them is a lot about me wishing that I did. But I am a godmother to friends’ children around the world – in Berlin, New York, Sweden and Italy. I don’t remember much ever feeling like a child, so maybe photographing them triggers memories. They are wild and magical, as if from another planet. And they haven’t been socially conditioned yet, so they can scream and express how they feel publicly. Sometimes I envy them. When I am in a group of people, the children and I find each other’s eyes, and end up laughing at the same, unspoken thing.” (Guardian).

04. Ezra Shaw: 14th FINA World Championships

“If it wasn’t for Tom Daley I would know nothing about diving. That said, the only thing I do know about diving is there’s a talented young British athlete named Tom Daley who happens to be a diver. Thanks to Ezra Shaw’s latest series of photos we can all learn a little more about divers and the ridiculous faces they pull while competing. Fitted with four natural mother of Pear snap buttons, Billy Reid’s linen popover shirt is the perfect item for seeing out the final days of summer. The snaps are a nice touch, giving the garment a little western appeal. The shirt is currently on sale.

Through the trade show circuit, we’ve shown a few highlights of next Spring’s collection from Perfecto Brand by Schott. Included in that is the Billy Kirk collaborative bag and a few lovely jackets. Perfecto Brand has just released the full lookbook for Spring/Summer 2012, with Northeastern sporting clubs and railroads serving as the backdrop. The locales are fitting, as vintage Americana remains the root of the line – the Perfecto jacket coming in new fabric makeups alongside suede and waxed cotton pieces and a bit of shirting.

Gearjunkie is talking up the new addition to the Gerber multitool line that includes a tripod mount. Now you can use your multi-tool to place your cam on those busy hikes or steady it for a quick shot. The two-leg found out on the Gerber tool makes it easy. Should be available sometime next year.

A short-wave collection of natural dyed shirts from the Seattle’s Blackbird company. “American-made heavy-duty 100% cotton oxford cloth with custom birch wood buttons, dyed using 100% natural dyes hand-selected by us to achieve unique colors and shades.” The colors are proper. With some wear and wash, they should become even more unique.
