North Sea Clothing have pretty much cornered the market in naval knitwear. Their Submariner jumpers flew off the shelves after every restock and you’d be hard pressed to find a better quality shawl neck pullover. The Wall Street Journal have an interesting interview with CDG’s Rei Kawakubo today, breaking down her relationship with fashion, how the brand got started, working with Junya Watanabe and the design process. We’d usually pick out a single quote but the entire thing is worth a read, so go over to WSJ to do just that.

A peek at Canadian brand Klaxon Howl’s Autumn/Winter 2011 campaign. Shot by Matt Barnes on the HMCS Haida Destroyer, these guys have gone to great lengths to place their collection in an appropriate back drop. Stating the obvious the range has a strong Naval feel and features some particularly smart outerwear.

We’re known fans of the knitted tie, so here’s one for the fellows who may not have the hundred quid to drop on a Charvet or Drakes tie. £40 price tag aside, it’s also a very handsome piece of neckwear – other folks might call it preppy. So that’s what we’re going to call it as well. (Liberty)

It’s hard not to wax lyrical about Mr. Freedom. Collection after collection they just seem to get it right. From the incredible fabrics to the depth of knowledge apparent in each garment, it’s no wonder the label has reached cult status. This Calico shirt embodies everything good about the L.A brand. Part of the ‘Apache’ collection and in collaboration with Sugar Cane, the print was exclusively developed and produced in Japan and the shirt features ‘French 1900′s-1930′s New/Old Stock glass buttons’ and a host of other features too numerous to list here. All we know is this is an absolute winner and possibly a future classic.

Without getting too ‘pop eats itself’ about the whole thing, we’ve always been interested in showcasing some of the interesting people working behind the scenes of fashion. So we decided to launch a ’speaking with’ series where we talk to said people, finding who they are, what they do and how they got there.  Consider it the ‘in the actors studio’ of our interview series. We never thought we’d see the day when we get anally retentive about crewneck jumpers. It’s a simple enough formula to get right (in the grand scheme of things of course – we do appreciate that all fashion is hard to get right) so why are so many people overdoing it with the elbow patches? We liked it in moderation but too much of anything can hurt you. This jumper’s a tad more tasteful than most elbow patch ridden numbers and it’s still got that crewneck thing going on that everyone loves. It’s a win win. (Opening Ceremony)
