01. What the Cooper-Hewitt Needs: More Design, Less Talk

“This month’s issue of Fast Company, “The United States of Design,” includes a profile of Bill Moggridge, director of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, co-founder of IDEO, and all around design world untouchable. The profile, by Jessica Lustig (a friend and former colleague), focuses on Moggridge’s big plans for the museum, which variously and vaguely include business partnerships, hands on programs, becoming a clearinghouse for other design organizations, and a better digital presence. What the article can’t, and Moggridge apparently won’t address, is what he’s actually going to do with the museum as a museum. When he lists the museum’s constituencies, designers come last.” (designobserver)

02. London Design Festival 2011: “Scaffolding Brut” at V&A

“Why do we give something so ubiquitous so little designerly love? “Scaffolding Brut” is an inspiring installation put together by Berlin-based BetaTank, asking this very question. The Germans offer a selection of playful ‘temporary scaffolding accessories’ including birdhouses, plant pots and even a porcelain radio. More of a call to arms than a fully formed solution, the installation leaves you wondering, if most of our cities are covered in the stuff, why isn’t scaffolding more of a feature of urban life, than the scourge of it. ” (core77)

03. 3R Tequila (above)

Style brings us runway looks from the Christopher Raeburn collection for Spring 2012… and they love it. “All of that activity made it easy to distract from the fact that Raeburn continues to impress as he expands his label. Though his emphasis is still on sharp-looking outerwear, Raeburn has stepped a toe into ready-to-wear, introducing jersey separates for men and women made from an organic hemp blend produced in England. These included long, heather tees slashed through with bolts of primary color and sharp-looking cargo sweats.”

Here’s our latest find in our never-ending search for sexy storage. Created by Keiji Ashizawa  and Tanseisha, it’s apparently inspired by Russian dolls. Our only problem is that we can’t get our hands on it yet, with it only being available for view at the Axis Gallery in Japan (details of which you can find in the link at the end of this piece). During the London Design Festival, The Victoria & Albert Museum invited us to intervene in any space we wanted within the Museum: the result is Textile Field an installation 30 meters long and 8 meters wide which takes over 240m sq of the floor of the famous Raphael Cartoons Gallery.”

some themes in the super hero worls “the intellectual hunk, the insecure redhead the mysterious outcast and finally the
valkyrie type.” Will work for some, but not all…

We have to admit to being a little seduced by the name here. Be honest though, it’s the same for everyone, be it Nigel Cabourn or Lanvin. And who wouldn’t want a bit of Dries in their wardrobe? And if you are gonna make a seductive purchase, you might as well pick a staple instead of an ostentatious piece you’ll fall out of love with in a couple of months. (LN-CC)

We have an odd obsession with duffel bags. They’re useless for carrying heavy loads (unless you’re a fan of rope shaped imprints on your shoulders) but we still love ‘em the same.
