Mister Freedom Indigo Henley

Mr Freedom like to keep things real. Not happy with just ‘dyeing things blue’, they’re now in possession of their very own Indigo vat. Now able to achieve varying levels of colouration, over dying and all manner of interesting and irregular results, their first guinea pig are these beautiful Swiss military Henley’s. All hand dyed and date stamped, the great thing about this old world process is the amazing fade that will result from wearing and washing.

Sunny Sports Jacquard Socks

Sunny Sports are always just on the right side of light-hearted in terms of print and design. ‘Fun’ can be tricky territory when it comes to clothing but this Japanese brand manages to keep things colourful and interesting whilst avoiding ‘jazzy’. This winter design is sober enough to allow a little peek between trouser and shoe, good stuff. Find them at Context.

01. Machine Knitting a Cosby Sweater (above)

We want one of these machines for Christmas.

02. Costumes for a Kid-Cool World

“LEGGY Blake Lively look-alikes pressed their lips to martini glasses, wearing sequined designer dresses with plunging necklines. Wall Street guys in untucked dress shirts hassled bull-necked club managers for prime tables. Deafening dance music blared, as swirling searchlights swept the crowd. It could have been another Champagne-fueled night at Avenue, the exclusive nightclub in Chelsea. Except that it was about 11 a.m., the martini glasses were full of Sprite, and all the patrons were actors in the HBO series “How to Make It in America,” which starts its second season on Sunday.” (New York Times)

03. Condé Nast Adds More Magazine Themed Restaurants

“If you’re a fan of places like The Hard Rock Cafe — in other words, corny restaurants — you might be happy about this: Condé Nast is opening more magazine themed restaurants by next year. According to WWD, there will be a Vogue Cafe in Kiev and a GQ Bar in Istanbul. The company already has a pair of the establishments in Moscow, and plans to add more in countries where Condé Nast magazine’s aren’t sold.” (Fishbowl NY)

04. “Kid Creole Was My Utopia”: An Interview With August Darnell

“When you go to meet, say, Wild Beasts, lovely as they are, they look pretty much like you and me. August Darnell, however, looks like Kid Creole – in other words, a proper pop star – someone beamed in from somewhere rather more glittery than here. He looks fantastic for someone who recently celebrated his 61st birthday. At its best, I Wake Up Screaming – the first Kid Creole studio album for 14-years, released on Strut (home of the great Disco Not Disco and Horse Meat Disco compilations, Mulatu Astatke and Ze Records reissues) – is as suave, strange and singular as anything he’s done. Certainly it’s way better than it has any right to be: collaborating with Andy Butler of Hercules & Love Affair (particularly in evidence on the giddy pulse of lead single ‘I Do Believe’) was an inspired idea, and Darnell seem reinvigorated by the process. He’s funny, sharp and talks at a hundred miles an hour.” (The Quietus)
